Millikin is a great university! It’s smaller than most, but is such a close-knit community. It is a performance learning school focused on actually working in the field, with every major! It also has so many other opportunities to be active in the community, through sports, Greek life, BSU, sign language and so many more extracurriculars.

Samuel - 05/18/2020

Millikin University thrives more so off of its fantastic academic programs, caring and proficient staff, and exemplary job placement rates than its surroundings or location. Class sizes are small enough to the point where intellectual conversation and deep thought take precedence over lecture halls. Professors are almost always available and willing to talk. The social life is fantastic for a school of under 2,500 students, and the Greek life is outstanding. Decatur itself isn't the most beautiful city in Illinois, and there are a few shady spots around campus, but like I said- its value comes from the education you receive, not from its outward appearance.

Millikin University is a very good school. The academics here are really good and because of the small class sizes, you have easy access to professors. The food is not that great, although there are some days when the food is really good. There is not a lot to do around Decatur, so you mostly have to find things to do on campus.

Leah - 08/02/2018

Class sizes are small, around 10-20 students on average. I love that situation because you are an actual person to your professor and we can have real discussions in class. The professors are all great people and really care about you as a person. They know you by name and you can have real relationships with them. The performance learning philosophy really works and helps me learn a ton.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to follow my heart, especially when making decisions like where I want to go to school and what I want my major to be. My family had been talking to me since I was very young about going to Eastern Illinois University. I decided to go there without much thought, especially since I had made it into the Honors Program on grace. To be truly honest with you, that was the worst year of my life thus far. I hated it there and in the back of my mind I was constantly wondering what it would have been like to attend Millikin University (the school I really wanted to go to). Why didn't I go there in the first place? It is a private school and my parents thought it was too expensive. I am paying for college on my own so towards the end of my year at Eastern I decided to reapply to Millikin and work really hard on financial aid. All of my hard work paid off and now I am as happy as I will every be and doing really well!

  11. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The thing that brought me to this school over other schools is how everybody genuinelly cared about me when I came to visit. At every other school I visited, it seemed as if people didn't really care if I came there or not. At Millikin, they want you there. Everyone is so pleasant and not in the fake way. They ask where you are from, what you want to major in, what you're involved in, and anything else to get to know you as a person. This was very unique to me and is why I came here.
