What is the stereotype of students at Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College? Is this stereotype accurate?

Nisha

I wouldn't even say that there are common stereotypes at our school. There are many different types of people, many groups. Yes, there are your stoners, and geeks, jocks, sorority girls. But, the general stereotype at our school is probably a Caucasian population, very smart, and rich.

Matthew

Culturally diverse, enthusiastic, personable.

The stereotype is a huge school and lots of parties! And lots of football. And tail gating. Of course this stereotype is accurate.. Oh and we also like to run. That is accurate too.

Oscar

LSU is a greek campus meaning there are lots of frat and sorority people around. LSU is known for a party school and there is always a party going on.

When I was on the college search grind, LSU was first on my list. However, one thing that I was very weary of was the idea that it is a party school. Why would I be weary? It's college right?! Yea. But I had heard horror stories of folks getting MIP's (Minor In Possession), DWI's, and even being expelled from the university because of alcohol-related incidents. I didn't want any part in that. If you want to come to Baton Rouge and get drunk every night of the week and skip class and flunk out, then you certainly can. But that's available almost anywhere. The great thing about LSU is that alcohol isn't necessarily the center of attention, it's simply a welcomed addition. There are a number of organizations available so that you can engage the campus and the city as a healthy alternative to the stereotype of drunkenness.
