What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Over this past summer I worked at a camp for children with behavioral problems. During the training process, one of the key concepts that was conveyed to us was, "These are not bad kids, they are kids with bad behaviors." One of the major problems I've had in college is letting grudges end relationships. Going into college I would suggest thinking about everyone as a good person, and forgiving those mistakes made along the way. In other words, "These are not bad friends, they've just made some mistakes."

What's unique about your campus?
Location and the teachers are the absolute best attributes characterizing Hanover. We have some of the best recreational wilderness (which also translates into great research opportunities) and the teachers are phenomenal in terms of helping, teaching, and getting a clear sense of where each student needs to head for graduation.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Worst is such a strong word. I can't really think of anything that truly dislike here. Maybe a small issue, but nothing to complain about. Maybe the lack of true diversity here. I'm black so there's not a lot of black people. Maybe around 40-45 at the very most. That's 45 out of 2000 by the way, so very small diversity rate.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Hmm...well, I usually brag about the size of my school, the quality of education, and the beauty of the campus! Because Hanover is so small, the campus community is very close-knit and genuine. At Hanover, everyone has a name. Class sizes are small, which allows professors to get to know their students. As a result, academics are top-notch. Finally, the location of Hanover is so...refreshing. Rather than crowded in a polluted city, Hanover sits high above the gorgeous Ohio River. Many of my friends who attend large universities miss out on these experiences that Hanover offers.

There is so much work outside of class and sometimes it is hard to juggle with all of my activites. It's like the professors think their class is the only class we have.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I would have known that the majority of students who attend Hanover come from the surrounding tristate area, and therefore, will travel home on the weekends, leaving campus a little quiet; as a student, you have to be creative and resourceful with friends in order to think of things to do.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Hanover College is a backwoods, rough-edged, jewel in the rough that would become better with more diverse, academically-inclined students; more reasonable expectations across the board; and with more visionary, tested leadership.
