There are, of course, people who fit these stereotypes - that's why they exist in the first place. However, the vast majority of Emersonians are creative, passionate, and fun, which far overrides their outward appearance, sexual orientation, or class status.

You can literally meet a million different kinds of people at Emerson, from the hippies to the preps. For the most part, people are accepting of other peoples individuality. Most of the people I have met have been very easy going, very free. As for the gay stereotype, this is mostly true for the guys. We have a thriving gay community, and it is VERY hard for a straight girl to find a date around here.

It's true that a large percentage of the male population here at Emerson is gay, however there's also a decent amount of them that aren't. I have yet to meet an Emerson student who is good at math.

In some way, alot of the stereotypes have some kind of merit. there are a ton of gay people, a ton of people smoke and some people do drugs. a huge majority like musicals and theater and there is barely any emphasis on sports. most people are wealthy and white, and 99.99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the people try way to hard to be the cool kids.

Yes! First of all I want to say that I've met mostly happy, chill "normal" people here. Even girls with pink mowhawks (who i was taught to fear) will help you find the Tech Help Desk. What's great about Emerson is that everyone is pretty open-minded so you can do what you want. There is a huge chunk of our population that lives the stereotype(in terms of looks); many boys run around in too-tight faded denim, and girls rock stripes of hot pink in their hair, but that IS essentially Emerson. I own leggings, moonboots, six different colors of tights... I guess I'm just living the stereotype. However, if you aren't prepared to deal with a hefty portion of outspoken music snobs, or people who love to share their polarized opinions on EVERYTHING, this might not be your school. In a mock-election, more than half the school voted Obama. We are artsy, liberal, and independent. There are many pairs of chuck taylors and even more smokers.

No, but Emerson is a very accepting community and because of that there are many outward homosexuals. No, but many people smoke. No, there are people of all faiths or lack there of, once again Emerson is very accepting. Also, Emerson tries to be so unconformative, its conformative.

Most of these stereotypes are true. Emersonians are extremely fashion-conscious?there is no pajama wearing to class. It is not even a question. For the most part, students are very active in extracurricular activities, pursuing their goals and experimenting in new fields. However, there are a few people here who break the Emerson mold. Some people do not have emo haircuts. There are even some Catholics, and I have heard rumors that there is a republican among us.

There are a lot of gay people at Emerson College, but they aren't an overwhelming majority, and it surely doesn't define the college by any means. There are a lot kids who try to be different and along the way end up finding who they are. Everyone smokes, has smoked or is thinking about starting, minus the few athletes--who are surprisingly dedicated to their sport and to their team. The gym is always full, half of the people are definitely trying to get healthier while the other half are just trying to keep fitting into their skin-tight scene kid jeans. A lot of these kids are pretentious. They know famous people, they've worked with famous people, or they are the children of famous people--and they'll let everyone know.
