The sterotypes of course have some truth to them, but it gets very annoying. It is important to remember that most people are not all of those things at once.
Emmerson
Many people are gay and most smoke, but there are plenty who don't and are nice and open to new things.
Sarah
I think these stereotypes were MORE accurate 10 years ago, but they are still accurate to some extent. It's a pretty accepting community and some people like to experiment with lifestyles. I think it's great.
Sara
This is mostly true, except that CSD majors are typically overly concerned with studying.
Casey
sometimes...we are not wealthy, we pay student loans just like the rest of you!
we do have some snoody film kids, but the majority of us are pretty chill, laid back creative people.

The hipster thing is only half true, about half the school is hipster kids or wanna be hipster kids, which is funny. We've got a lot of people from California, namely San Francisco so that's were that comes from. I'd say most of Emerson kids smoke, including those who start once they get here. I've personally never felt pressured to smoke, you do it or you don't no big deal, I think it just adds to the artsy vibe on campus. Their are a lot of gay men at Emerson but a smaller lesbian community and hardly any transsexuals so don't be fooled by that stereotype, it pretty much only relates to the gay male community. Hardly anyone on campus is religious and if they are they keep it quiet. Judaism is prevalent on campus, however, but it's more of a cultural practice, I went to a great Hanukkah party this year! Emerson's film program is kick ass for sure. Emerson dominates the Campus Movie Fest competition and three of our film makers are up for MTV's best film maker on campus award for the 2008 MTV awards oh and some Emerson student films are showing at the Cannes Film Festival this year, wow! The acting facilities that we have are great but we need more, badly. They are building more space and that'll be done in 2009 so you're in luck future students!

Obviously, no. There is a large GLBT population, but not everyone is gay. There are a lot of interesting people, but there are also 17 Matt's in my graduating class. I can still do calculus, and most students can figure out tip on a check split six ways. There are also quite a few sports teams at Emerson, and some really good players.
Dan
Yes, but they don't apply to everyone.
