Cornish College of the Arts is probably the best embodiment of Seattle that there is. Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Cornish hires working professionals to provide the best, most immersive educational experience possible. Since you're learning from people in the industry, you're building relationships that will help you book jobs in the future. The campus is tiny, but it's easy to get around and easy to build relationships with the small student body.

Shea - 03/28/2020

Although the amenities and location of Cornish are admirable, there was a culture on campus that was very pretentious and exclusionary and the quality of the education did little in the way of preparing the students for a working career in their field. The actual academics were very lenient and the quality of the general education classes were poor.

I love my college and I love the city its in. The connections i can make with other classmates in the same field of study and the friends i make. I also love how major attractions are within walking distance and if I want to get around the school provides a pass for public transportation. The dorms are little small but nothing I can't handle.

When I took a tour of Cornish College of the Arts, I got the immediate feeling that I belonged. With close interactions and a community that encourages you to do what you love, I am in love with this school. Its been a long time since I've loved attending school and now I wake up everyday excited to see what I'll learn in my classes. Its a close knit community where the supervisors help to set you up to succeed. I am proud to attend Cornish.

Cornish College of the Arts FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Cornish College of the Arts?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Cornish College of the Arts is 59%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back, I would tell myself to start early, and don't be afraid to ask questions. The more time you have applying and researching colleges, the better. Research colleges over the summer after Junior year, and know roughly where you want to go by the start of Senior year. Have your applications done by Christmas break. If, like me, you have no idea where you want to go, or even how to find out where you would want to go, ask as many people as possible. Ask them where they went to college, what they thought of it, and where they think you should go. Think about what you want out of a college, things like where you want to be, how many students you want to be around, and of course what you want to study. If you're really stuck at the beginning, just thinking about what kind of weather you want to live around can get you going. Your teachers and family are there to help you. Don't be afraid to use them.

The campus is spread out. You have to walk to get from one building to another, often in the cold and the rain. Even if you live "on campus" it's still a ten minute walk to get to class in the mornings. And if you are a music or dance major, you have to go up onto Capital Hill to get to class.

My school is best known for creating amazing works of art and with that comes creating amazing artists. And going above and beyond the ordinary. The school is very small, the teachers are 100 percent focused on you at all times, and you really get to know your teachers on much more personal level than any other college. While growing in you field of study you always have support from everyone.

  12. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The most unique part about this school is that because it is so small all of the various departments are able to come together and make beautiful pieces of art. Usually, Theatre and Music performance are seperate from one another but as artists we can perform a monologue while a trombone player performs a jazz solo. At Cornish, we the students are also in charge of our own education. If we don't want to take a particular class and would musch rather take another class instead then we can.

  13. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I'd known what a struggle the finances would be. I was given the impression that as I progressed I'd get more financial aid each year, but that has not been the case. I thought by now (halfway through my junior year), I'd be getting enough financial aid that it would replace the loans I'm taking out, but instead I'm going deeper and deeper into debt. That isn't Cornish's fault, as financial aid is drying up everywhere, but still it's really unfortunate. I hope the economy improves soon.
