What is the stereotype of students at Cornell University?

Parker

People say we're dorky, have the highest suicide rate, good food

Cecilia

I recently read in a college guide that Cornell boys are more attractive than Cornell girls. They seem equally big-headed to me.

Skylar

Well, there are a lot of stereotypes within the Cornell community. First, all the asians are engineers and they sleep in duffield hall. The architects are a bunch of freaks who live in sweatshop (the building that looks like a sweatshop) and are emo and wear all black. If you are in arts and sciences, you are good at drawing. All the asians live in HILC. All the Latinos live in the LLC. All the blacks live in Ujamma.

Everyone knows about the gorges and thinks we jump into them. We're known for being pretty competitive and high-stress. (How many Cornellians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Six: one to change the bulb and five to crack under the pressure) I guess we're the Ivy "Party" school. Our SAT scores are supposedly the lowest in the League. Also we have the best legs. And the fiercest hockey fans.

MJ

Culturally divided. Ruled by Greek systems. Overly elitist upper middle class yuppie mongers. Fun. Academically overworked for no apparent reason. Hottest Ivy.

Shelby

Cornell is the easiest Ivy to get into and the hardest to stay in. Ithaca is COLD!

Ryan

I think the biggest stereotype is that only rich, white snobby kids go here.

Maurice

I think a very big one is preprofessionalism. A lot of people think Cornell students only care about their major and how it will land them a well-paying job. They care more about technical, useful knowledge than about the humanities and classes deemed "not serious." This leads to the accusation that Cornell is apolitical, or at least less politically charged than other similar schools. It also leads to the accusation that Cornell kids are dorky and jocky, but not artsy.

Jane

Depressed, overacheiving, overworked.

Misha

All Cornell students are nerds.
