Of course, stereotypes exist for a reason, but I find that there is more to Conn than the preppy stereotype.

It seems as if 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the freshman class is from the Northeast, and many of them go home on weekends. It almost feels like a "commuter school" although everyone lives on campus during the week.

The superficial stereotypes are accurate, I would say, about 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the time.

Sadly, for the most part, I'd say yes.

While there are definitely a fair share of kids who spend their summers sailing on the Cape and have enough money to pay for their coke-addiction (it´s to be expected, the tuition is offthewall expensive), there is definitely more diversity at Conn than people think. The campus is comprised of students of different races and ethnicities; there is a significant international presence and Conn has been making an effort to increase diversity on campus. Diversity, however, to me, also means diversity of interests. There are students into sports, art, theatre, music, politics --everything. Though the campus may seem a little homogenous from the outside, everyone can find his niche.

Contrary to high school rules, not every preppy person is a jock.
Lacrosse is not the coolest sport- all sports here consider themselves special because there's no football team.

no, there are a lot of groups of people and you can find anyone you are looking for despite the small size of the school. We are also full of extremely smart students who care about their academics a lot more than I ever imagined and graduated with honors and top of their classes from high school.

Now, a lot of the kids are privileged and might wear polo shirts but you'll find this at any NESCAC school. When people hear the term "preppy" they often equate that with snobbishness but at Connecticut College the kids are super down to earth.

What most kids say about Conn kids is that they are a bunch of rich kids who did fairly well in school but didn't get into an ivy. That being said, the majority of students here come from private schools, and Conn probably wasn't at the top of their list for colleges. However, I've met a lot of people that have come to terms with that, and as a result student life is more relaxed and less competitive than it is at more "elite" schools. I'll also be happy to assure prospys that while you are not going to like everyone (I find superpreps sort of annoying) you are going to make some of the best friends of your life here, and you're not going to find it hard to float between different social groups. I hang out with preps-jocks-stoners-rockers-straightedge-fucking weirdos. The kids all have brains, are friendly, and lack the programmable robotic quality that gives me the heebey jeebies.
