The nice weather and social activities make Cal Poly a great place to be. I also think that there is a great sense of community here. Everyone here is nice and helpful.

I love the hands on learning. It really helps me understand the topics we go over in class better. I also absolutely love that there are animals on campus. I can go up there and watch people taking classes about them and learn a few things about them myself. I like that the college is big and there are a lot of people as well. I'm always seeing new people every day.

The community is the best part of coming here. It makes transitioning to college here so much easier than say at some large university in a more urban setting. When I first came here I immediately noticed a distinct difference in how positive, helpful, and pleasant the entire community is. This does not solely apply to the students: the town is also a great place to be. Simply being on campus and walking around is something that makes me smile. It's a great place to study something that truly interests you.

Cal-Poly's motto of "Learn By Doing" is something that most universities lack in their curriculum. Rather than simply reading or hearing about a topic, students are able to dive into a hands on experience, as they participate in dissections, perform their own studies, or even create their own inventions. Cal-Poly is a school where kinesthetic learning is not only reccommended, but applied, allowing students to be more prepared for career options directly out of college.

The best thing about my school is that its not so small that you know absolutely everyone, but its not super big where its overwhelming. Its the perfect size and everyone is generally so nice that its not hard to meet people and make friends. I love that about my school. There's a nitch for everyone.

The focus of the professors is really to teach and help the students in an academic setting. Many other universities are more research-oriented, and the students don't receive much attention from their professors unless they are also part of their research projects. At SLO, the professors themselves are the ones teaching the courses, and the classes can become very involved and hands-on, which is important in helping us learn what we need to.
