Babson College Top Questions

Describe the students at Babson College.

Amy

Students here are really diverse. You'll become friends with people from all over the globe, and it's really refreshing. You learn to view business from many perspectives. In the classroom, students here can be cutthroat, and the atmosphere is very high-success and high-pressure. But outside of the classroom, Babson students are very easy to communicate with, and it's easy to make friends.

Allie

Students at Babson are extremely diverse, geographically as well as through their career goals and personal interests. Business and an appreciation for entrepreneurship is a common thread that all students seem to share and thrive upon. Most students are very ambitious and love to get involved, both in and out of the classroom.

Personally, I hate college brochures and everything in them because like a business, schools will try to reel you in with the prettiest HD pictures with everyone sitting on the grass having the time of their life. Then you see all the SAT words inside the brochure and all that stuff. With that, even though it must have been said a billion times in brochures, Babson is a diverse school. Babson is diverse in the sense that a nice chunk of the u-grad population is international (20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}). As far as race goes with the American population, it can see more improvement. I do give Babson credit though for really stepping it up by admitting more African-American (like myself) and Latino-American people into the school. I hope that maybe more Indian or Native American people will apply to the school because I would like to see more of those faces. All in all I never felt excluded because of my race and who I am as a person (heck, I never felt excluded haha). Again, like I said before, if you are a mute/ complete introvert then Babson is NOT the school for you. For one thing, class participation is a HUGE aspect of your grades and if you don't know how to make yourself present to professors your grades will suffer. In terms of social life, people won't intentionally knock you out because the people are really nice here, but no one is always going to chase you down to do stuff. If you are two-faced this is NOT the school for you just because most of the people here are really blunt ( blunt but nice haha) and don't cut corners with stuff. Next is fashion. This one is interesting because even though Babson is a business school you do have to stay savy and dress well. Just a little side note for potential students, you have to dress down in business attire for your classes sometimes. I guess since people have to dress up, people learn to care more about their appearance here. From the times I went I do not recall seeing anyone walking around in sweats or just really casual period. You don't have to be a supermodel, just be presentable. Last point, some people come here for the sole purpose of making money in the future. So despite their love for the school, you will hear some people say "I want to make $1,000,000 at Chase Bank" (idk something like that). It's something you can brush off though. Overall, I think Babson people are pretty awesome because they are serious achievers, yet they are laid back and don't rub their success in your face like an Ivy League student (and trust, I've really seen Babson people succeed more than students from Ivy Leagues simply because there is a lot more dimension to them then "I went to Harvard"). Not knocking the Ivy's down because I admire what they do and a lot of my friends go to their institutions. The motto here is "Work hard, party harder."

Students at Babson tend to be very driven and hardworking, but we are generally very business minded individuals. Most students wear casual clothes to class (jeans and sweats are common) with some students opting to wear business casual, often due to jobs on and off campus. Our student body is involved in a number of activities and groups (more than 95 in total on campus) including athletics, Greek life, theater, the Babson Dance Ensemble, racial and cultural groups, religious groups, LGBT groups, and a number of others. We have an incredibly diverse student population with roughly 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of our student body coming from outside of the U.S. and with most students coming from outside of the New England area.
