I think it is a good school. Everything is very close together and the campus is surrounded by different shops and places to hang out. There are many housing halls to chose from but a few of them have no AC or elevator. At the beginning of every semester the power goes out in most of the dorms which is frustrating because it could be fixed in a few hours or it could take a few days. There are many places to eat on campus, but the main dining hall's food is not good. People often leave there regretting it and with stomach problems. Professors are usually helpful and easy to get a hold of but there is always that select few that you never want to cross paths with.

I've visited this school a couple of times and have loved everything about it. The size of the school and of the classes were exactly what I was looking for. There also seems to be a ton of different activities to do on campus. Overall, it seems like there is a something for everyone and many of the students are very involved which makes it feel like it's own little community.

I started off at one of the extension schools which I would highly recommend. My advisors have been great and the transfer was extremely easy. All of the professors I have had this far have been great as well. As far as classes and grades, I have done much better at this school. Highly recommend.

My experience at UWSP has overall been a fulfilling experience full of opportunity and growth. As a natural resource student, I have been given great opportunities for professional development and fieldwork experience. Professors are average, some study areas are lacking passion and drive, while others are thriving. UWSP loves to promote its sustainability practices and mission all throughout the university. However, UWSP currently invests endowment (donation funds) funds into fossil fuels. Fossil fuels do not promote a sustainable future for Wisconsin alumni and current students. I will not recommend UWSP until they divest from fossil fuels to better align their actions with their proudly stated values.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Breathe. Take a good long look at yourself in the mirror. You see that? There, right there. That is the face of a college student. That is the face of someone who is putting a k-12 education behind her, and is now moving up to the level of--oh my God--secondary education. Don't worry about your college classes, because some of them are easier than high school. Don't worry about meeting people, because you'll be great. Don't worry about forgetting something, because your mom loves you enough to mail you anything you've forgotten. Most importantly, don't worry about the people you're leaving behind. This is when your life truly becomes YOURS. So, my advice to you, a bright-eyed college freshman? Hindsight may be 20/20, but if you keep looking backwards you're bound to be tripped up by the present. Let these next four years be spent only looking to the future.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

With this past election, I felt out of place as a republican since Stevens Point is a very Democratic city. It was very alienating how pushy the Obama campaigners got this election, making the few republicans wary of sharing beliefs. The weekends here are usually a lot of fun but not many people stick around since Stevens Point fits as a suitcase college due to the position of the city being in central Wisconsin.

The best thing about UWSP has to be the classes and teachers. Even though some of the topics can seem a little boring at times, the teachers and professors truly make each class enjoyable and fun while still giving us the information we need to succeed. I also enjoy the variety of the classes and how even the basic introductory classes are exciting and interesting.

UW Stevens Point is a tightly knit community. Living on campus gives you access to hundreds of activities and countless campus events, while still being small enough to allow a sense of family and cimmunity. My teachers all know each student by name, and they form true relationships with their classes. Several programs are available to keep new students on the right track, and there is always something going on. Between our diverse student organizations and our entertainment company, Centertainment, students are never just stuck in their rooms. Stevens Point is a safe, small town school with big time attitude.

I brag about our intense biological and natural science curriculums.
