From an academic and community standpoint Seattle University is a great school. The professors are some of the nicest people you will meet and they genuinely care about how you are doing in their class and they get to know you as a person. I have had one professor who required us to meet with him at least once a quarter just to see how we were doing in his class and if there was anything he could improve on. Another professor of mine offered to step in as an advocate when I was having roommate problems. They are always looking for ways to get their students involved with the local community and help them with networking. Regarding the students, I can't say there is a single class where I haven't made a friend, and that's coming from an introvert. Students are hard-working and almost everyone you meet is either in a club, working an on-campus job, or a part of student government. People are really friendly so don't let the rumor of the "Seattle freeze" scare you away. The few complaints I do have really are about the housing and residence life office. Hearing from the RAs and being a person who needed HRL to fix a problem, they don't do a great job. If you are having roommate issues, facility issues, or need to change rooms, HRL doesn't care. They try to do as little work as possible and no amount of emails, complaints, or tears will stir them. SeattleU is a great school though. But if you can avoid it, don't live on campus.

My opinions about Seattle University is that it is a decently good University, I do agree with their policies like not allowing any alcohol illegal drinking in this campus, and their amount of sports and clubs outside of school. I do like how convenient Seattle University's location is, not just from my location but on how close it is to other food places and shops. I also like how high their graduation percentage, how safe I felt as well, and I personally like how they are a Christian University.

"I'm not sure" has been my default response when asked about my college major. It feels like a shield guarding me from the arrow of potential questions. For a considerable period, I hadn't identified a specific interest. I began to develop a genuine fascination with computer engineering and programming. Eager to explore this newfound interest, I set out to discover colleges that could nurture my interest in these fields. As I dug deeper into my college options, Seattle University's engineering program really stood out. What caught my eye was the range of courses that are offered. From the basics such as CPSC 2430 - Data Structures to more advanced courses such as ECEGR 4890 - Engineering Design III, the lineup seemed like just the right mix to feed my growing interest in computer engineering. It felt as though it nailed the kind of hands-on, well-rounded education I was after. However, it wasn't only the appeal of computer engineering that led me to consider this university. Courses such as UCOR 2900 - Ethical Reasoning demonstrate the university's commitment to a well-rounded education, which is an important value of mine. I envision personal growth and the development of diverse skills that will assist me in various aspects of my life. Furthermore, during my visit to Seattle University, I was genuinely impressed by the university's atmosphere and culture. It instilled in me a sense of belonging. At Seattle University, I aspire to undergo growth, fortify my values, and nurture my passions and interests.

Seattle University is a great option if you want to be in the heart of the city but still feel like you want a smaller school setting. The class sizes are smaller, so it is easier to make genuine connections with your peers and professors. There is also a huge selection of classes that you can take whether it is connected to your major or outside of it. Seattle U encourages students to explore classes outside of their major and to learn more.

    Apply for as many scholarships as you can so you can pay for college. Also, don't be shy. Get out there and make friends because there are so many incredible people with amazing stories that are just waiting to share them with you. Make sure you sign up for classes early so you can get the classes you want. Finally, study a map of wherever you are going to school so you don't get lost. Lost people are most often the ones targeted by predators because they make easy targets, so be careful!

  5. What is your overall opinion of this school?

    I just started law school at SU. I fully recommend this college for its great resources and great staff who go over and beyond to make sure the students succeed in school and obtain great jobs once they graduate. My first summer I took criminal law with one of the best professors I have ever had, and received workshops on time management, case briefing, exam writing, legal writing, resume writing, interviewing, mentoring, and was invited to many social parties to meet alumni and attorneys in our area. The staff and students really are there for you if you feel you can't handle the pressures of law school and will give you encouragement the whole way. This is a good school! Difficult as it should be, but manageable.

    Seattle University is a very competitive college and for my major, it is very competitive. However, there are great teachers and advisers who go beyond their duty to ensure that all students who need help are got it. Class participation is commonly encouraged and my favorite part is lab where I can put into application what I read in books.

    Seattle University students are considered very wealthy, snobby, and spoiled. The city of Seattle is considered very laid back, fun, wet, cold, and full of coffee shops.

  8. Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

    There are some people you'd expect to be hipsters, but most everyone here has pretty diverse interests and isn't a stereotypical anything. I don't feel like people have been really pretentious about it. The GLBTQ community seems to be a significant and well-respected presence on campus and the surrounding neighborhood I don't know what the numbers actually say, but given that SU has almost a 2:1 ratio of females to males, it's just easy to just overemphasize which guys are unavailable. The liberals and democrats definitely outnumber the right-wing. During election season, it was like the conservatives had to come out of the closet. But as a friend once described it, liberals here are less the tie-myself-to-a-tree type and more the start-a-non-profit-organization type. It's definitely not as much of a party school as UW, but it's not a dry campus or anything. I know plenty of people who party and plenty of people who don't. I personally don't. A lot of people will go to UW, if they really want to, but there are some closer by.

    The price tag. Being a private university the school costs a pretty penny to attend, thankfully they give out quite a bit in financial aid each year. I am here primarily on scholarships and so is my roommate. From what I hear, a lot of kids are. Still, $38,000 is a pretty hefty tag to tote!

    The faculty and staff here at Seattle University is amazing. They are always willing to help you and truly enjoy their job. With a jesuit mission, a lot of the students here are open minded, and very friendly. As a private institution you really get to know your surroundings, professors, students, and the campus a lot more because of the small size.

    The stereotype of students at my school is international students; they are believed to come from rich parents/families. I don't think this is accurate because a lot of them won a scholarship to study abroad, so their parents are not able to assist their need here in the US.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
