What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell myself three things: 1. Get the best grades you can. I wish I had put my mind more towards my studies at first. Instead of seeing my classes as an opportunity to learn something more in depth than ever before, I treated them the same as high school classes--something to get through. 2. Follow your heart and interests. I wasted time taking classes for a major that I thought would lead to a good job even though I knew the material didn't interest me. I found a major that fits me now, and I'm much happier, though it will take me a little longer to graduate. 3. Be involved. There's TONS of stuff to do on campus. I would say to balance activities between service projects, academic or cultural clubs, and of course, fun stuff like dances and games! There will be no other time in life like this!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about the school is that there isn't as big of a range of majors as there is at bigger schools. There are students who would love to get their higher education here, in a subject that isn't offered as a major.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about my school is definitely the variety or ethnicity. I am fortunate enough to go to a small university, with students from over 70 countries in a student body of only about 2500. I have met people from all over the world, and we all share the same goal: to gain an education, and benefit from it. It is incredible to see all these different people come together, to study, and to learn; all in one beautiful place.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Aside from the incredibly warm weather and wonderful location, BYUH offers students a chance to excel academically, socially, pyschologically, and most of all spiritually; however, the most valuable memories come from learning about the 50 different cultures attending that campus and being able to learn of, practice, experience, or maybe adopt a variety of different perspectives and ways of life different then my own.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Someone who doesn't think they are better than others. Most of the kids here are poor in money but rich in spirit and friendliness. Everyone works together and does the best they can. If you are other-oriented, you will do well. If you are focused only on yourself you won't like it.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
Like almost any school someone who doesn't care about their education and learning shouldn't attend school. There are so many eager minds out there who would love to opportunity to learn, grow and develop themselves. To not only benefit themselves but their family, friends and communities. Education is to be a fun experience yes, but also taken seriously. People who don't want to take their education or learning seriously should not attend this school. Plus, this school offers something even better and that is spirituality. This school is defnitly has high standards.

I think the most frustrating thing about this school is that it is far away from any bigger cities like Honolulu. It takes a while to get there if you go by bus.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Diversity is the number one thing that BYU Hawaii is awesome for. There are students from over 70 countries. It is so great how students from all different ethnicities can get along so well. Anywhere you go, you are always hearing a different language. For me, learning about other cultures is so exciting. This is why I think that BYUH is so awesome!
