Growing up, my family was not all that stable, and we bounced around from apartment to apartment because we could not raise enough money to pay the bills from month to month. As our issues worsened, my grandmother would say, "Let God take the wheel." As a young child, I never really understood what that meant, and when I asked my parents about it, they would never respond. However, as I got older, I learned the meaning of "Let God take the wheel" and who God is. Knowing who God is helped me through those dark times and gave me a sense of comfort. But as I got older and started attending more funerals of close family members while we were still getting kicked out of more apartments, I began to wonder, "What God would put a kid through so much hurt and agony?"The farther I walked away from God, the farther my family got from God, and our circumstances got worse. Using alcohol and drugs to lessen the pain and heartache they felt, most of my family were alcoholics, which only made matters worse. My mother stayed gone most of the time, while my father mainly wanted to hang out with his friends more than his family. My Grandma was my rock and always the most God-trusting woman in the family through all this turmoil. I love Tarleton.

It’s a good school, but generally lacks diversity. It has a great welcoming feel for incoming freshman. Tarleton will try to help you accomplish whatever needs to be done for you to be successful. The school is accommodating and is a fun school to be at.

Tarleton State University is a great school filled with awesome people. Even the president is a wonderful person who makes it a life goal to help us succeed in college and walk across the stage. There are a variety of services and utilities for students to get help or information.

It is a great place to further your education. The students and staff are so welcoming and always strive to be better for their students. I wouldn't want to further my education anywhere else. The professors make it a priority to get to know their students no matter what. Tarleton State University is the place to be.

    Tarleton is a great school that seems to be hindered by its label as Division II school. Though I feel like I've received an excellent college education, I feel like by education would be trumped by someone who had a degree from a better known school.

  5. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

    Well this school has given me an amazing learning experiance, but the only thing that I wish I could have been made aware of is: the cost of school itself and the cost of living on and around campus. It is hard to estimate how much living really is. I recieved scholarships from my high school but they only helped the first year of school. I wish that the school could have given me kind of a heads up on how much it was really going to be.

    The kind of person who should not attend this university is the kind of person looking for a structured, well rounded university. This school, I have found, is more of a party school than anything. I am trying my best to leave this university for one that takes education more seriously.

    I love the size of Tarleton. It's personable, and it is a good reflection of the culture in this part of Texas. The professors are great, and the tuition is reasonable. Tarleton is a school I trust. It isn't so big that you are just a number that is often times forgotten. Every one on the Tarleton staff that I have talked with has been very respectful and helpful. I guess, in the end, that's what makes Tarleton the school that I chose to attend.

  12. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

    The small classes are great! Each teacher really cares if individuals succede and are there to support you. Most of the professors are former Tarleton students and support the traditions and cellebrations. Our traditions are also great. We are known for the "Purple Poo," a secret spirit organization that host various traditions and show up when you don't expect them. They are covered from head-to-toe and use voice changers so no one can identify them. . Our Texan rider, Oscar P. (the founder's pet duck), and the plowboys are all iconic spirit participants.

    The most frustrating thing about Tarleton State University is that there is a limited number of housing opportunities on and off campus that fit my budget.

    It's a really great kinda medium size and a very tightknit campus. People tend to be very involved and the Poo are always around ;) The sports are big here and there's a ton of spirit wherever you go. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut parking sucks, majorly.

    fantastic. go to all the spa events you can and befriend the poo. not much to do in town but the students tend to make things happen. lot of partying tho..

    Average I guess. If you want it's fairly easy to get to know your professors and the tutoring and supplemental instruction services are legit!

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
