I enjoy being apart of the Truman State University community. I am a prospective student and Truman State University has been my very top pick school ever since I participated in Joseph Baldwin Academy program. Joseph Baldwin Academy was a program supervised by students and professors in Truman State offered to 7th graders to 9th graders.

Truman State University is not my ideal school. I would prefer to be at a different school, but Truman was local and relatively small. Fellow students are incredibly irresponsible, but nothing is done about it. Especially during the time of the pandemic. Many of the faculty also come off as lazy. They don’t teach, but they basically have other things teach or grade for them. The school board also refuses to close the school for really anything. Negative ten degrees outside? Well it’s your lucky day! You get to brave the weather and walk to class. Over 60 students in one week getting COVID-19? I hope your immune system is great because we are still conducting classes. Let’s not forget that those with the corona virus refuse to stay in quarantine. A few years back there was also a frat student that convinced multiple students to commit suicide, but the school protected him at all costs. They then pretended like they cared about the mental health of student when in reality they only cared about money. With that being said, I really don’t like Truman State University.

This is a fine school if you want no help from teachers or peers. The extracurricular activities are fun but lack in funding. For being a dry and drug free campus, the students fail to follow that on a regular basis. Most of the people you will meet there are majorly stuck up and set in their ways.

Truman State University is not a bad school, I feel I must make that clear. However, I do not think I would say that it is a great school. The campus is great, if you like small schools. If you don't, then everything feels so close together and it's almost claustrophobic. The academics are pretty good, and almost everyone I talk to here says they're here for a specific program. The number of programs at Truman is impressive, and I feel like the programs are a solid okay. Truman is a good school for people who want to go away to college, but do not want to spend a lot of money and do not have a lot of expectations for their school. Truman is a mediocre school, but a good mediocre school.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The first thing I would tell a senior is to work really hard at your studies. Even though parents and teachers tell you this, it is really important to help you get into a good school and to potentially get scholarships. If you are planning on being a collegiate athlete, make sure you look at all aspects of the school and try to be as honest as you can about your decision. You are going to be part of a team and that team, for better or worse, is depending on you for at least 4 years.

Academics at truman are very good. i am proud to know that my diploma from truman will be looked well upon by other schools. the teachers are very intelligent on their particular subjects and even though they may be a little too smart for their own good sometimes i am lucky to have this education!

  5. What is your overall opinion of this school?

the one thing that i absolutely hate about truman is that when a person walks by and you ask who they are, people tell you, "oh thats --insert name--, he/she is a --insert fraternity/sorority--" and i hate that if you aren't in a fraternity or sorority there really isn't any parties that you can go to. there is way too much importance placed on joining a fraternity or sorority. from when i talk to other people from other schools fraternities or sororities aren't that big of a deal.

Truman University brings to life the college experience for all students. It provides the best of both worlds: an intimate campus where students are known by name; and offered a vast list of opportunities in comparison to large university. Choosing Truman means you'll be supported by faculty and staff; presented with a first class, rigorous curriculum; and offered unique learning experiences. The campus design makes mobility to any spot an enjoyable walk. Professors are easily available to meet the needs of students. I treasure my experiences at Truman State University; I'm grateful for the quality education I received.

  10. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing is probably that students seem to stress out a lot about their grades. Succeeding at Truman takes dedication and hard work, but some students have the mentality that grades are more important than actually learning and growing. Truman has a lot of high-achievers, and it seems that anxiety, stress, and sleep loss are fairly common complaints.

  16. What kind of person should not attend this school?

I belive that anyone who wants to attend Truman should. They should keep in mind that this is a small school in a small town, but there are many perks. For instance, the fact that the classes are smaller, tuition is cheaper, and we are the "Harvard of the Mid-West." Students who prefer to live in a bigger city should not attend this school because Kirksville only has a population of seventeen thousand. Lastly, if you want to attend a school you should always go on a campus tour to ensure it is the correct one for you!

  17. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The campus is small but that helps to get to all your classes without problems. Since the school is relatively small you get to know most of the students in your classes as well. There is a long history at TSU for academic excellence, I've heard it called the Harvard of the midwest in the liberal arts arena. The professors are accessible and willing to meet with you when you reach out to them.

  19. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Truman might be a state university, but we definitely earned the title "Harvard of the Midwest." In general, Truman students are very driven individuals who work hard and strive to do their best and be the best. They are usually open to discussing a wide range of topics, even on touchy political, religious, and similar subjects, without insulting or condemning each other - this is a Liberal Arts University, after all!

  20. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

We love our sports teams, but they are definitely not the focus at Truman. They are far more concerned with making sure Truman is excellent academically. Some of the teams do pretty well in our division, though!

  21. What are the most popular classes offered?

This is a more difficult question to answer, because our school is a liberal arts school. So students have to take a huge variety of classes. That being said, I would say the class most students would elect to take is General Psychology.
