I took online courses at Athens and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The classes are small so it is easy to get in touch with your instructor and you recognize a lot of your classmates. While shopping for colleges it looked like Athens State had more requirements pertaining to your actual degree. I appreciated that they put more focus on your major rather than supplemental non-major courses.

A very clean school with many professors and staff who genuinely care. Many of the staff will email students back after office hours. Everyone is very helpful and if they do not know the answer to a specific question, they will give you someone's information who does.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell other students to research all the schools they are intersted in. They should find out cost of attendance and how prominent their study of major is at the school. Other schools offer the education program, however after careful research I found out that Athens offers a better variety of classes and availabilities making it easy to finish the degree in five semesters. This is a very important factor when finding a school.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about the school that I attend is that the school and the classes are the perfect size to be conducive to learning. The classes are just small enough to be able to build relationships and class cohesion while at the same time being large enough to bring several different perspectives to the table expanding the discussion topics. I enjoy the interaction between the class and the instructors/professors in the classes that I have taken. Classes are offered in several different formats but nothing really brings it to life like being in the room at Athens.

The school only concentrates on its students. Teachers are good with knowing what students need, there is little pressure to be exceptional, only to do what is needed for school. Students that are going here tend to enjoy the classes they take, because they have done the research and gone to a school that is not too expensive and still offers its students off campus classes, along with faculty that want to help you when you are getting closer to graduation. The teachers are usually members of the fields, so they tend to have practical forms of teaching.

  9. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Because I had attended a very small community college before transferring to Athens State, I felt very sheltered when it came to academics. Also, the classes at the community college were ridiculously easy compared to the classes at the university. Although I feel much more stimulated in my classes now, I wish I would've known how much harder the classes are at a university.
