When you think of student parties, what comes to mind? Crazy games, sexy outfits and of course, drinks! We’ve all heard about and seen the wild ;tendencies of those under the influence, and while drinking can be fun (and entertaining to others), not everyone is interested in waking up with a hangover. To ensure all your guests enjoy themselves at your next soiree, consider adding some ‘mocktails’ to your menu. These delicious, and sometimes nutritious, mocktail drinks are easy to make and fun to serve!
1. Punch it Up
First in the top mocktail drinks is punch. What’s a party without a punch bowl? If you choose to serve both an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic version, be sure to keep them in different containers (perhaps different colors or bowl shapes). This best mocktail recipe from DrinksMixer.com is easy to make and very refreshing. Just make the Kool-aid® and add the remaining ingredients. To punch it up, add some sliced fruit for decoration.
2 packages Kool-Aid® Cherry mix
4 liters soda water
1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 can frozen pineapple concentrate
Sugar to taste
2. Margarita Madness
Mocktail margaritas always add a festive air to any occasion. During the summer, it’s easy to find a variety of fruit to give you even more options to serve at your next party. The best mocktail recipe Mock Margarita from Recipe.com takes about 10 minutes to make, but it’s very similar to the real deal.
1 6 oz. can frozen limeade concentrate
3/4 cup orange juice
2/3 cup unsweetened grapefruit juice
25 – 30 small ice cubes (about 4 cups)
Green food coloring (optional)
Lemon or lime slices (optional)
Directions:
A. If desired, rub rims of margarita glasses with lime wedge; dip rims into a shallow dish of coarse salt or sugar and shake off excess. Set aside.
B. In a blender, combine limeade concentrate, orange juice, and grapefruit juice. Cover and blend until smooth. With the blender running, gradually add ice cubes through the hole in the lid, blending until slushy. If desired, tint with a few drops of green food coloring. Pour into margarita glasses. If desired, garnish with citrus slices. Makes 8 (4-ounce) servings.
3. If You Like Pina Coladas and Getting Caught in the Rain…
One of my favorite summer drinks is a Pina Colada. I am especially fond of those with strawberries or mangoes. The best mocktail recipe Coco Colada from About.com is a great base for any version of this yummy mocktail drink. Simple add all the ingredients to a blender and serve!
4 oz. pineapple juice
2 oz. coconut cream
1 cup ice
Orange slice for garnish
4. The Daiquiri Made Me Do it
How many times have you used that excuse? Well, with this delicious non-alcoholic mocktail version from Annie’s Art Book, you won’t be able to blame it on the alcohol this time. Simple toss the berries in the sugar and leave overnight in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to get the party started, put the marinated berries, lemon and ice in a blender and serve.
2 cups strawberries
1/2 cup sugar (you can use more if you like!)
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
2 cups finely crushed ice
5. The Morning After
For those who swear a Bloody Mary is a great hangover remedy, About.com offers a Virgin Mary that’s Heaven sent.
3 oz. tomato juice
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1 dash of Worcestershire sauce
celery salt
ground pepper
hot pepper or Tabasco sauce
celery stalk for garnish
Directions:
A. Build the liquid ingredients into a highball glass over ice cubes.
B. Mix well.
C. Add the seasonings to taste.
D. Garnish with the celery stalk.
The great thing about these mocktail recipes is you can double each to provide your guests with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, if desired. Have some fun by serving them in festive, colorful glasses and garnish with fresh fruit or cute little umbrellas. If you do add alcohol to any of the recipes, be sure to have designated drivers available and the phone numbers for your local cab companies handy. A good host makes sure all guests get home safely. Cheers!
