Do you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors looking for birdies, eagles or albatrosses? Well, you’re either a member of the Audubon Society or a golfer. If you belong to the latter half, you probably already know that today is National Golfer’s Day. It’s a perfect excuse to take off early from school and hit the links, especially since there may be money to be won. And we’re not talking about those side bets you place with your friends. We mean scholarship money! It’s not just the football and basketball players who score all the green for college. Many organizations offer golfers substantial awards for playing on school teams or simply because they love the game. Don’t believe us? Check out these golf scholarships you can receive simply for getting a little ball to go into a cup.
1. Fisher Cats Foundation Scholarship
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation awards twelve $2,500 scholarships annually to New Hampshire and Massachusetts student athletes. Only graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply. Deadline: May 2.
2. Bill Dickey Scholarship
Graduating high school seniors who participate in golf may be eligible to receive up to $14,000 through this scholarship program. Students must demonstrate leadership skills and community involvement. Deadline: May 2.
3. WSCGA Scholarships
The Women’s Southern California Golf Association offers several different golf scholarship programs for graduating high school seniors. Students must be female, have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher, and play golf. All scholarships are renewable and vary in amount. Deadline: May 15.
4. LPGA Foundation Scholarships
The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) sponsors four scholarship programs for female high school seniors and younger golfers. There are a total of 22 scholarships available, valued between $250 and $5,000 each. Deadline: May 15.
5. Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship
A total of 60 scholarships, valued between $1,000 and $2,000 each, are offered through this program. High school juniors who participate in an individual or team sport, and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, may apply. Deadline: May 31.
6. Caitlin Brondolo Golf Scholarship
High school seniors (female) who have played a minimum of two years on a high school golf team, and are preparing to play on a collegiate team, may be eligible for this $2,500 award. Deadline: May 31.
7. Sarah E. Huneycutt Scholarship
The Florida Women’s State Golf Association awards one $5,000 golf scholarship (renewable!) each year. High school seniors (female) who reside in Florida and have an interest in golf may apply. Students must not be eligible for any other athletic scholarships. Deadline: June 1.
