If you’re having trouble deciding what to wear today, let us help you out. Today is National Wear Red Day, so that should at least give you a start. And, it’s all for a great cause — raising awareness of heart disease and stroke in women. There are some schools out there that have “wear red day” every day. So, if you want to show some school spirit and help support a good cause, here are a few “big red” schools to choose from.
Cornell University
Found on cornell.edu. After all, the nickname for the school’s sports teams is The Cornell Big Red. With intense admissions standards, students at Cornell University should wear their red with pride. One Unigo member and sophomore biology major writes, “Cornell is not a normal school. If you think you’re a normal kid, with normal aspirations, don’t come here. Cornell will test you to the brink of your academic strength.”
University of Nebraska – Lincoln
Students at UNL like to refer to their color as scarlet, but they still have a special place in their hearts for Lil’ Red, one of their two mascots. As a Cornhusker, it’s not uncommon to hear “Go Big Red” chanted throughout this sports-enthusiastic campus during a game.
Western Kentucky University
Found on usnews.com. Although it’s located in Bowling Green, Western Kentucky University is all about the red and white! In fact, their red roots run deep. The first president of the school was Henry Hardin Cherry. (Lame joke? We know, but we couldn’t pass it up.) Another interesting fact: if you want to learn more about the folk tale of the “Lady in Red,” WKU is home to the largest American master’s degree program in folklore.
The University of Alabama
Found on blog.al.com. Alabama prefers to call its color crimson, not red. All the same, it’s a great university for some school spirit! Shout “Roll Tide” anywhere on campus, and you’ll get a “Roll Tide” right back! And, it’s not just the sports culture that set Bama as a top-choice school, UA ranks among the top 50 public universities in the nation.
Denison University
Found on denison.edu. Even though Denison is the smallest university on our list, it’s big on school spirit. Students are proud of the Denison Big Red, and the school encourages the development of leadership skills through a balance of intercollegiate sports and academics. Even if you don’t attend or plan to attend a school that bleeds red (well, you know what we mean), we still encourage you to support National Wear Red Day today. Show us your support and school spirit by sharing pics on social media using #UniGoRed.
