What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time the first thing I would tell myself to do is to branch out. I think being part of a college campus is a huge step and going around and getting to know people is so much fun. Another thing would be to be more independent. Its great to have your friends, but being able to get out and be a leader and stand up for yourself is something to be proud of. I would also tell myself to be more involved. If i had really thought about where I was going in life I would do more. I am doing things on campus and in the community now and I love it! Get used to talking to teachers and being ready with questions you may have is another tip. Most of all just have fun with what you do because you will get where you are going with whatever route you take, and do things with a smile :)

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The dating scene. Oh boy. Let's just say Willamette sucks when it comes to dating. Since it is such a small campus it is hard to find guys that you are attracted to, especially since the classes every year seem to get filled with more and more females. Then again there's the whole thing where the "good" men on campus, of course, have girlfriends. Whatever.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Willamette is a small liberal arts university where the professors and the administration put the success of the student first. It's size is both a curse and a blessing as it keeps the class size small, allowing for student discussion and participation, but can also feel too small. However, Willamette has every kind of extracurricular activity that a larger school has, and you will find friends for life.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The small size of our school makes four years heere really difficult to find new minds or talent. We do have avery talented body, but we all tend to do two or more activities because in order for them to run we need to do them. Everyone seems to know everyone's business. I'm not sure where they would expand, but with a bit more expansion, I believe they'd be able to keep the integrity of the school intact. It is sometimes difficult to compete with other schools when we have such a small pool to draw from.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I wish I had know just what it means to go to such a small school. If you do something good, everyone knows. And if you do something bad--everyone knows. Its's a little claustrophobic at times.

One looking to just attend classes. There is a lot going on here, and many interesting people, so if you like just your tight-knit group of friends, you would be missing out on the Willamette experience. A person can't depend on others to tell them what to do here or what help to receive- the resources are here, but no one is holding the student's hand.

What are your classes like?
My classes very much reflect a liberal arts education. This semester I'm taking Latin Prose, Ancient Middle East History, Close Reading and International Politics. My classes are diverse and mostly discussion based. This makes them very engaging and I feel more invested when I know that I am a part of a class, not merely a person in the classroom.

How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?
Not at all. I'm sure your parents would love to hear your voice as often as possible. I call my parents every night. So does my roommate. Other folks call their family once a week or two. It really is up to you, but try to keep in touch with your family as much as possible. It'll make the process easier for them.
