The University of Sioux Falls is the small campus that is nestled in the heart of Sioux Falls, SD. There are many walking paths around campus, and the scenery is very pretty to look at in between classes. Most of the teachers genuinely care about the students here. If you are looking for a quiet school with a homey feel, then this is the place for you!

I love the University of Sioux Falls! The professors care about everyone and want us to succeed. The campus community is my favorite part of campus; it is welcoming and very fun! The only thing I would change about the University of Sioux Falls is the food at the cafeteria. It tends to be the same things, and there is not much of a variety.

I used to be very excited about attending here. However, their financial office fails to prepare for the amount of work that must be done prior to the start of the school year. Due to the financial aid policy at USF, students start the year without their financial aid being awarded till over a month after classes have started. Combined with the numerous online programs required for the nursing program this creates an extreme financial hardship for some students. I previously attended a much larger university and I had my financial aid readily available to me. Their lack of preparation and dated policies result in my rent being late as well as other bills to include health insurance. If you are a student who doesn't rely on family or other funding, you're put into a major bind.

The University of Sioux Falls is the safest school in the area. While the big state schools permit partying with drugs and alcohol (even having a whole week of it...), the University of Sioux Falls has a strict no tolerance rule against both. The academics are amazing and the atmosphere in the dorms is lively. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

As I stare with tear-swelled eyes at my student loan balance, I wonder if it was all worth it. Had I forgone an education like the one I choose, I may not have learned the law of diminishing returns, the basics of calculus, or how to speak German. But what terrifies me even more is the thought that I may not have learned the most valuable lesson: try new things. I have never been one to stand out from the crowd for fear of being criticized. But these four years have become a whirlwind of new experiences. Had I not tried new things, I would not have discovered my passion for running 10k's and painting, had the opportunity to mentor young girls with running, applied to law school, went out for the school musical, donated 250 meals to the homeless, or interned on the legislature. Those tear-swelled eyes, I realize, are of pride, not frustration. The lesson I have learned to try new things is one that cannot be included in tution prices. It is a lesson that is far more valuable than the number on my student debt statement--one I hope to never forget.

  5. What kind of person should attend this school?

People who come here generally like sports and close knit communities. Most people here are engaged in a sport or other activity. Also, Christian background is somewhat important to our school, too. Here chapel is not required, but it is a good quality to have because I'd say about 99.7{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of people who attend are Christians. Also people who like small class sizes would like our academics. If a person is friendly, most anyone can learn to like USF. Our two big majors are education and business, so that is another thing to look out for.

  6. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

There are so many things that teachers, parents, and loved ones can tell you to be ready for before you take your first class at college or before your first day in a dorm room but I don't think anyone can really prepare you for college except yourself. I don't think I would want to know anything more than I did before I went to college because I got to experience the unknown in my own way. And my college experience is something that will only happen once--I want it to be something I can remember forever.

  7. What's unique about your campus?

I believe the best thing about USF is that with the University being such a small campus the students get more interaction with the teachers and the students feel more obligated to ask questions and not be afraid.

  9. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I believe that the worst thing about the school, is the lack of punishments following a student's failure to comply with the rules. With the label of Christian Liberal Arts, USF should uphold the moral backbone in all aspects, but they often fail to step in and reprimand the student properly so the behavior is not repeated.

  11. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

The Univesiry of Sioux Falls is a place that is focused on comunity; its smalls size allows students to get to know and build relationships with professors and other students on campus, which allows students be more comfortable to ask questions and gain the knowlege in not only thier specific field of study but also in other studies as well.

  12. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I must say that the most frustrating thing about the University of Sioux Falls is our recreational facilities. We have a lot of lounges to use, but I have no desire to make use of them. Of the two lounges nearest to me, neither one has functioning DVD players, one has a broken cable jack, and the other only gets 13 channels of cable. If they expect people to want to stay on campus and make use of their facilities then they need to make sure things work to begin with.

  13. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Our school is probably best known for our football program. We have won the national championship 3 years in a row now, I believe. A lot of guys that come here are recruited for football. Academicly, our school is most known for producing mass numbers of teachers. There are quite a few elementary education majors that graduate from USF. Our school should be best known for the faculty's attention to students because it is so great. Every professor here is willing to take special time out of their day to make sure you are helped. USF is great!
