I happen to be a non-traditional student at the U of M, and most of the students were quite traditionally aged college students.

Smart, fun kids who don't take themselves too seriously or get stressed out about the little things - good heads on their shoulders.

My classmates are amazing people. So many of them are involved in really awsome things like research projects, volunteering, sports, music, and many others. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone I've met, and I am always awed at how on such a big campus it really is a small world.

Wide-eyed listeners who will make funny faces when I do something suprising, yet challenge me and take me to coffee outside the classroom walls.

Unique, open, sheltered, diverse.

The school is mostly white, this being Minnesota. But it is also Minneapolis, and there are many cultural groups on and close to campus. Within a mile of campus, there are churches of all denominations and mosques. There are a few LGBT groups and even a gay frat. There is a lot more diversity of opinion and background than I expected when I first enrolled. Most students seem to lean left politically, but that is certainly not everyone. Financially it's a pretty good mix, but not many super-rich kids.
