University of Minnesota-Duluth Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Breann

That Criminology wasn't the right major for me.

Erin

I wish that I had known the busing system in Duluth is confusing because I may have brought up a car. It would have made it much easier to get around town, and it would also be beneficial to you when you want to go home. You are guaranteed to always have transportation to wherever you want to go, and you do not need to find rides with others. Also, if you need to get just a few things at a store, it is not worth wasting an entire afternoon of riding the bus just to get those few things.

Andrea

Take advantage of what the school has to offer! There are so many activities, clubs, sports, events, and organizations to be a part of; definitely something for everyone. Really try your best from the beginning. Keep in mind that your classes will only get harder as the years go on and once your GPA drops, it is hard to get it back up. Keep your focus on school but don't become overwhelmed by it, be sure to have some fun too!

Colleen

Before I came to this school I wish I would have known what I wanted to study. At first I felt like I did not have a purpose of attending school without knowing exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I realize now however, that part of college is exploring your interests by taking a variety of different classes and I have begun to narrow down what path I want to take in my life.

Kaitlin

I wish I had known more about the campus life. I wish there were more things to do on the weekends and during the week just to be able to relax and get away from homework for a little while.

Chelsey

I wish I would have known that it would have been so big because the class sizes are very large and I wish the professors at least knew me by my name and not by my face. Also, sometimes you do not always get into the classes you want when it comes your time to register and that can make you graduate late or make you take summer classes. Also, people are into drinking a lot here which is not my thing and so it can be tough finding friends that are not into that kind of thing.

Alex

I wish I would have prepared myself more mentally to put up with all the changes, people and drama. It hit me like a tn of bricks, and made the beginning of my schooling kind of gruesome.

Rick

I wish I would have known it's hard to aquire needed classes when you are a sophomore and junior because the best ones are givin to freshman. I wish I would have bought a parking permit because parking in the pay lot is hit or miss.

Heather

I wish that I had known that the weather here was going to be awful three fourths of the year. I also wish that I had gone to the university of minnesota, twin citoies instead.

Rebecca

I wish I had known how little non-alcohol based activities there were to do in Duluth, and I wish I had realized how there's not much to do in the city.
