Grant

My classmates at UK have all been very inuititive, creative, and open to learing new things.

Kate

I rarely have classes with people of different races. I am also Greek so I surround myself with a lot of Greeks, none of which are black, few are asian, etc. Most students are from Kentucky, rural or Louisville. I am from Lexington and most of us from Lexington go to other schools. My friends are all in my sorority and therefore all have money of some sort. Most of them talk about marrying rich, rather than making the money themselves.

Allie

I was very uninvolved in organized campus events other than sporting events, you best look elsewhere for this type of info. BUt UK students love to have fun!!

The University of Kentucky is extremely divided. Unlike HS people will generally, maybe even unconsiouly, congergate to other people that are like them. Whites almost always stay with the whites, blacks with blacks, etc. And that applies to the entire Univeristy. UK is very predominately Christian, as I said before we are in the Bible Belt. Other religions are usually lookeed at as weird and out of place at UK. Actually UK has a realitively high gay population. But if you are found out to be gay you are normally more than an outside, you become a target for other people to make your life as difficult as possible. With the exception of race, the socio-economic status is one of the most important aspects of "who you are" on campus, this one I can not stress enough. LOL, what kind of students would not feel out of place at UK??? If you are not white, Christian, straight, greek, good looking, smart, independant minded person, and in somewhat of good shape you will be an outsider. I will not say if I agree or disagree but that is the very hard reality. UK has the vast majority of its students from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the the rest from Ohio and a tiny potion of folks from all over the other areas of the country and world. All kinds of financial backgrounds are prevalent. But the poor will typically stay with the poor, middle class with the middle class, and the rich witht he rich. About 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the students are aware, less are active. The students are very predictable about the political stance depending on the College that they are in. Some Colleges have a very liberal group of students while other Colleges have a very conversitive base. About 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the Professors are liberal to very liberal. And it is not uncommon for Professors to bring the beliefs to the classroom. Students always talk about how much money they want to make and over time the amounts tend to get smaller and smaller and more realistic the closer the students come to graduation.

I believe that UK, being in an urban location in Kentucky, is a very liberal campus. There are so many diverse student groups for students varying in race, religion, sexual preference, etc. The opportunities are endless and I enjoy that there are always student speaking their voice for a cause they believe in.
