I think the university of texas of the Permian basin is an excellent option for students. With their willingness to aid students in there success, it makes for a comfortable campus. Since beginning here all of the staff have been of major help as I continue my courses

I think it is a great community. It is a smaller university but I think that only adds to the appeal of the campus. The class ratios are about 18:1 depending on the class and you are able to make personal connections fairly easy with the professors. Overall a great school for a good price.

I think that sports wise, a new coaching staff for the women's basketball team and the football team should definitely be considered. Academically, there are a lot of professors who are not American. This has created some language barriers and they have very thick accents, making it hard to understand them. Other than that, they are very willing to work with you on anything you are having difficulty with; whether it is understanding them or understanding the content of the class. There is a student success center full of free tutors who are very helpful. Campus life is pretty fun, especially around finals time/ end of the year.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    One of the drawbacks to our school is that we don't have the greek system. Which makes it harder to get out and meet new people. I think the greek system would help everyone socialize more. Since we don't lack this, there tends to be lot of drama around campus within our various sports teams.

    My classmates are very down to earth.Alot of them are from West Texas which is a barren wasteland of desert and mesquite.They grew up much the same as i did and i can get along well with almost everyone. They are hard working just as i am and the study groups with them allow me to gain friends as well as learning the material greatly.

    I think UTPB is a school more for a student who is ready to get to get serious and work hard to achieve what they plan to acomplish. Although the teachers and the expectations of the school might not be as laid back as some other schools in texas it can also be a really fun friendly school. If one wanted to have the absolute best colllege exerience they could have UTPB would be thier right choice. there isnt a college anyone could find better then UTPB.

  7. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

    I wish I had known how important it was to ALWAYS be on time. Many of the professors take promptness and attendance into account when they are grading. In addition, it is exceedingly difficult to succeed in many of the classes when you miss any portion of the lecture. I also wish I had known that what I called 'studying' in high school is worthless for college. College requires a high degree of dedication and often, the students have to completely learn a new means of studying.

    Any person that wants higher education. Also any person who wants to attend a highly accredited school without having to go to a huge university.

  10. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

    UTPB is a very high expectation school. The classes are very challenging and the teacher?s main goal is to see that students do well. I love that there is a small number of students at UTPB as well this allows for more individual attention then a student would receive at a bigger college. Originally I had planned to transfer to the university of Texas in Austin but having had such a great time my first semester here at UTPB I have decided to stay. I don?t think I would have liked any other school as much.

    The professors are always willing to help the students. New students shouldn't be intimidated by the professors. They typically love to answer questions that range from from sheer curiosity to homework related. If you have any problem, even if it is personal, the professors will help you work through it.

    The administrative is very unorganized, coming in as a freshman I was giving the run around, no one really knew what was going on. Accepting the student loan was very difficult.

    I've only been taking class here for a few weeks, and I love it! The online courses are challenging but fulfilling (I'm doing the Finish@UT accelerated Humanities program), the professors are knowledgeable, and everything is great.

  14. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

    One of the best things our school is known for is the dorms. Their style is completely different from those in the surronding area, being apartment-like. Each person has their own room, with a shared bathroom, as well as a full kitchen and living room. Another thing our school is known for is the job acceptance rate after you graduate. We have one of the highest percentage of people who graduate and earn a job after they recieve their degree.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
