My teachers know my name! My favorite class was computer science I and least favorite was probability Students in both of these classes study all the time. Students are not competitive in all the departments. My major is actuarial science and some of the teacher have been great help but some of the teachers are not really willing to give extra time outside the class for answering questions.

All my classes are extremely small. The biggest class I have ever been in is 40 people. The teachers all have known my name. My major specific classes have been between 8-15 people per class. I have been lucky enough to have plenty of one on one time with pure genius in the profession I intend to have a career in. Everyone participates and the students are all so willing to help each other out. My classes have been interesting and thought provoking. The education at the school is geared toward getting a job and getting it because you are better educated than any other college student from another school. We don't learn from textbooks as much as from hands on experiences and learning by doing.

The academics at Roosevelt are very good. Professors in the specific departments such as journalism for example, know the students by name. The professors at Roosevelt also have actual experience within their field which is helpful for the students because we can learn about what it takes to pursue a career in that field as well as learning about what is currently taking place in that field. For example, I am a journalism major. The professors in my field are able to tell me what editors are looking for in the newsroom when it comes to the style or tone of the articles that we write. Professors also invite other journalists that are working in the field to our classroom to give the students relevant information about what's taking place in the journalism field.

Some might regard the academics at Roosevelt less rigorous than other schools but what it seemingly lacks in rigor is more than made up for with the grounding, real-life experience and example of the faculty. Many of the professors work in the same profession they teach and there are quite a few who are prominent in their field. Because of the emphasis on real world knowledge and the access to community connections, students are more than prepared to begin a career during college and upon graduating. It's true that the acceptance rate at Roosevelt is high, creating a varied academic capability. However, most students at Roosevelt take their studies seriously because of the wish to better their lives upon graduating. The student body is filled with veterans, continuing education students, and students from every spectrum of the socio-economic scale. Very few take the college opportunity for granted. Roosevelt also has a relatively well-known conservatory program (CCPA) for music, theater etc. This IS known as being quite rigorous and the students in this program are incredibly dedicated. It is not uncommon to find CCPA students singing in the halls or acting out performance pieces to whomever will pay attention!
