  3. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

"Life is what happens, when you're busy making other plans" (John Lennon). At eighteen, I thought I had plenty of time to go to school; so I chose the path of not choosing a path. What I didn't know is that, whether or not I conciously choose a direction, life always takes a direction. If I could tell my eighteen year old self anything, it would be to live deliberately. There are things that will happen that will be beyond your control; but at that point, it is up to you to decide how to deal with them. Don't allow circumstances to determine your path. At eighteen, I chose not to choose a direction, that decision narrowed my choices. At 44 years old, I live deliberately, and that has made all the difference.

  4. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I don't think there's anything I wish I'd known. So far, my experiences at St. Pete College have been fantastic! Being a non-traditionally aged student; I thought I might feel awkward amongst the younger students. But the truth is, while there are a lot of people just out of high school, there are also a lot of people who are like me. People who for various reasons, started their college education later in life.
