It seems okay so far, but I do not have enough experience during C-OVID19 to tell what in-person life on campus is like. The professors that I have right now seem to do a good job helping their students learn and make them comfortable to seek help. The website is a bit outdated so it is hard to find up-to-date information, but I can find my way around by asking counselors and staff.

It is a good school. There are many students who are not eager to learn and do not take initiative which sometimes can be a bit of a bummer. The school as a whole is clean, renovated, and safe. The professors that I have interacted with are kind and polite. They are always available to help when I have questions.

Ohlone College is a great college when used as a stepping stone. It feels quite empty and dry, and there is little to no student life/club life/exciting atmosphere on campus. Most people attend with the intention of transferring to a different 4-year college. There are actually two campuses for Ohlone College; Fremont and Newark. The Newark campus is amazing, clean, and modern-looking. That campus is mainly designated for math and science courses. The Fremont campus looks quite old, but there are almost always renovations going on. Ohlone College values visual and performing arts, so there is always an array of classes in those areas to choose from. So, Ohlone College is great to take your GED classes at, but not a great place to stay at.

Ohlone is one of those schools you are proud of saying you go to when you mention you attend a community college. Not only is it's culture diverse and welcoming, but it's constantly renovating campus on top of Mission Hill is one of the most beautiful local colleges in the state. Maybe others have had different experiences than mine, but I've found that the variety of classes they offer, whether that be online or in person, gives you so many options and opportunities to finish all your necessary classes, and even take a few that could actually change your life. While you might end up with a professor now and then who "throws in the towel," I have found that almost every professor I've had has genuinely cared about my grades and my ability to use the skills taught in their class in the future. So when I say I go to a community college, I couldn't be more proud of my choice.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

As a senior there are a few major things on your mind; prom, graduation, and most importantly college. Leaving high school and going on to bigger things in college can be scary but you have to be willing to take chances and put yourself out there. Remember that a lot of people are in your same shoes, trying to make friends and working towards a career. Some will become good friends and others are better to keep as acquaintances; do not loose yourself, there are pressures but you will always make the final decision, think with your head but remember your heart. Life is a rollercoaster that we must be willing to ride, tests are around ever bend and success is at the end, we just need to hold on. I am coming back to tell you, well me, that we can not let fear take over, and even though family stressors will hit hard the first semester we can not give up, dreaming high is a risk and as long as the work is done we will end up where we want to be.

  3. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I would have known what great advising resources were available to me at Ohlone before I went down the path of "independent counseling." If I had established a clear academic plan from the get-go, I would definitely be farther along in my educational career. I don't, however, regret my time at Ohlone by any means.

I'm attending the new Health Science campus of Ohlone which is located in Newark, Ca. It is an Earth friendly campus with complete Wi-Fi access throughout the campus which makes it easy to use your laptop anywhere in the building , not only the library. I love that the campus is completely enclosed and enviornmently friendly. It also has all of the latest technology available due to it being a fairly new building. It's the first campus of it's kind and looks great. There is also plenty of parking and a friendly and knowledgable staff.

  16. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Since it is a satellite location the most frustrating thing is that the bookstore and main financial aid office is located at the main campus on the other end of town. The new building mainly houses all of the health programs as well as some general ed. classes so you may end up having to take classes at both locations if what you want is not available i n one place. Luckily I got into the Physical Therapy program so all of my classes are at the new building but I have to go to the main campus for books.
