Students should go to a college where they know they will feel safe, happy, and active.

I would tell them to look at the cost of the schools. Are they willing to compromise their finacial security for a college that might not give them the end result they wanted? It will be hard but I do not recommen exceding their capacity for a college that might not be the right one. With that in mind, I would suggest to get involved and meet new people. That is the way to make memories and have a blast while maturing and preparing for the future.

Make sure they love the area and there are commonalities with home otherwise you will be very depressed.

Take your time in selecting your college. Do not decide where to go based on where your friends are going, because that may not be what is best for you. Listen to your parents advice, but in the end, listen to your heart also. Research, research, research! This is a huge decision, and one that will affect you for years to come. Once you are at your college, find people that you have something in common with and be yourself. Don't spread yourself too thin and don't party too much! It will ruin your chances at success. Good luck!

I would suggest that students and parents get involved with the college experience. I think that they should take advantage of the new student orientations and mixers and learn what the college has to offer - before committing. I also think the dorms are great for first year students, are reasonably priced, and are a great way to get to know other students. I also think students need to work closely with financial aid and academic advisors before enrolling in classes - especially when they haven't chosen a program. Get all your general education requirements out of the way first.

The best advice I can offer is that the student makes the decision about where to go. They should pick somewhere they would feel comforatble adn become apart of the ollege community.

Before embarking on your college career you need to have at least a four-year plan. College is expensive and most likely you will need to take out loans or spend countless hours applying for scholarships that never come to fruition. You do not want to spend you entire life in college, after all college is supposed to prepare you for life. Also you will want to get the most bang for your buck. So have a plan. Pick a major and stick with it. If you are unsure of what you want to do with the rest of your life you may want to take a semester or two to work and save money while you are pondering this question. But take no more than two semesters and then get back in the game! Once you have a plan, carry it out and take advantage of the many oppurtunities that will come your way! You are young so have fun but don't become too distracted by the pleasures of life. Work hard and when all seems lost keep on keeping on. When all is said and done you will have spent your time and money well!

Make sure you visit campus, go through the tours and orientations if it's offered. It's great touring during the academic school year because that way you can observe the students and the surrounding environment and get an idea of the campus atomsphere. Parents, encourage your kids to not come home as often, cut the cord loose! There are so many activities going on during the weekend that if they are visiting home, they miss out on some great and fun opportunities and don't get as connected. Students, LIVE ON CAMPUS PERIOD. Especially your first year. The time to meet new people is your freshman year. Everyone is in the same boat as you. And lastly, ENJOY! Live it up! Some of the best times of your life! =)

Look for small teacher/student ratios, teachers that are involved, and an economic value.
