Is the stereotype of students at Michigan State University accurate?

Tate

A large part of any college population is going to be asshats who clog up the system and make life miserable for anyone who doesn't fit into the asshat norm. At MSU, the asshats happen to be dumb annoying rich and middle class kids who coast through life just trying to maximize their time getting inebriated and laid. However, the asshats in the ivy league and at UofM are SMART annoying rich and upper middle class kids, who bend the rules better to destroy your spot on the curve, hide being a facade of shallow lip-service to sophistication, and generally act like whiny, self-entitled, oxygen-wasting snots. At least the asshats at MSU have the courtesy to either drop out once they flunk their weeder courses, or switch their majors to something urbane like Anthropology or Business. If you're smart, it's not too hard to avoid them.

Although MSU students do party what college doesnt. Look at the other things yes we party but we balance it nicely with academics. MSU you some of the top academic programs in the country like business, journalism and education. Ok so there may have been riots in the past but this year what they called a "riot" was just a block party that was aggrevated by a few dumb people and the police. As for the burning couch, I have only seen one and it was last fall when my apartmen complex lost power some people thought it would be a good idea so we would have some light.

No, although a lot of students do party and drink, and many on a regular basis not all students fit that stereotype. Students drink and party at the majority of colleges and universities nationwide and although MSU is no different the amount of students actually partying and drinking at MSU is exagerated much of the time. At the begining of my freshman year I felt like I was the only person out of the 46,000 students who wasn't out partying. But later I found out that a lot of my friends weren't constant partiers either. So although it may feel like you're the only one not out partying on any given night there are actually a lot of people having non-alcoholic fun as well.

Casey

nope

Michael

The first one is correct, if that is how you choose to be a student, but there is no pressure to do so. The second one has its stories but is not a common thing. The third is shit stupid, we have extraordinary people at our school, and trust me I have my dumbass UofM friends, haha. The fourth is not true whatsoever, even though we do have a lot of greek life I would say the majority of students are not greek.

Dennis

Not entirely, yeah there is a lot of partying, but most students know when its time to settle and get things done.

jeff

sometimes i would say so with all the media and the "cedarfest" incidents. Overall i would say its pretty relaxed and a friendly environment, because there will always be people wherever you go who want to party or just cause some ruckus

Kristen

study and party hard

Amy

While we do get a little crazy, everyone has to have fun sometimes. I think, though, that MSU has a perfect balance between academics and extracurriculars. Not everyone parties, and even those who do still make time to study.

Brad

No. MSU is the perfect balance of partying and academics. While the unfortunate riots do taint our representation, most people at the last riot were not MSU students which just feeds the false stereotype. There are a lot of brilliant students here and you can judge how academic oriented we are by just going to the library on a friday night and seeing how crowded it still is. You can always find a party every weekend and balance out your classes very well. Also the pride for our teams is die-hard, unlike most of the bandwagon fans over at that little sister school who dont even know their own fight song.
