1. True for some, but not nearly as many as people think
2. Definitely not. Student-athletes have alot on their plates...most have good grades despite hectic schedules

Yes, who else can get a 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} or more for students that have had some sort of run in with the law, anywhere from a noise violation to getting arrested during a riot (a fun riot not a violent lets kill everyone)
Alex
a lot of them can be for some students, but considering the fact that there are 36,000 students, they are not true at all. they are only really true for a very small percentage of the student body.
TJ
Yes. You can find that scene in a pinch. But you can also stay clear of it too.

Stereotypes usually come from somewhere...and there are always exceptions to the rule
Amanda
Hmmm...depending on our basketball season

1. No. While there is a large number of students who do party, get drunk, riot, etc., they make up too small a percentage of the entire student body for MSU to be technically called a party school.
2. No, for the most part. I think this could be said of almost any school. The majority of MSU students are there to make something of themselves, but there are some who don't care. If you take an Ivy-league school where rich parents want their kids to go to school there and the kids really don't want to be there, it's the same thing.
3. No. It is true that UofM has more stringent acceptance standards, so that's probably why people think this. But there are many people I know who were accepted to both schools but chose MSU because they got a scholarship, their major area was better at MSU, etc. MSU and UofM have different areas of academic expertise. The honors program at MSU in particular has more opportunities for students that at UofM.
4. Absolutely not. MSU is one of the only, if not the only, university in the USA with three medical schools: veterinary, MD, and DO. MSU was also ranked 1st in the nation in nuclear physics for the 2006-07 year. Are those serious and intellectual enough?
5. Maybe. There are probably some students who feel this way. I didn't. MSU is only as big as you make it. I was able to find many friends through band and fencing. If you join an extracurricular group, you will make friends.
Adrienne
I don't think they are entirely accurate. Not every student going to MSU is a huge partier and even the ones that do party a lot aren't doing things like having riots and burning stuff. It's true we did just have a party at one of the apartments that turned into a riot but not all those students are from MSU and that was just one party this year that did get out of hand. I think people think that riots happen from every party that is thrown at MSU but that definately isn't true at all! Most parties are pretty low key and just fun to be at.
Mike
Msu has been blessed with the experience of throwing amazing parties, but to be honest if you are on any college campus looking for a party you WILL find it. The problem people have with MSU is that we are just notorious for throwing extravagent parties and to say that MSU is strictly a party school than those individuals are truly blinded by jealousy.
MSU has a list of major opportunities that is more than impressive. We have amazing programs such as the leading Osteopathic programs, our highly ranked Kinesiology classes, agriculture, animal science and much more. Its sad that a rivalry amongst schools has slurred our good academic standings.
The last one is about how easy it is to get in. The saying that if you can't get into Michigan go to state is ridiculous. The grading requirements and standards exceed the average high school student and in so has a competitive academic program. I bet anything that people who say that about MSU are people who didnt get in themselves and ended up going to some other college.
Rachel
Somewhat. A lot of people are partiers. But a lot of people also get really good grades and go to all their classes. Quite a few of our programs (College of Education, College of Music, Vet Medicine) are ranked better than any other in Michigan, and are ranked very high in the nation
