Marshalltown Community College is a great place to meet people. Small classes are typical and teachers are very hands-on with their teaching methods. You will get to know everyone well in your classes and enjoy some good laughs and friendly conversations with everyone. For it being a smaller community college, I was very much glad to have been a part of MCC's community.

My time that I’ve had at Marshalltown Community College really has shown what kind of want to keep attending. The professors all make a effort to see how your classes are going and really do care about what’s happening in your life and want to get to know you as a person and not just a paycheck.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could travel back to visit my high school self, I think the first thing I would do would be to smack myself in the head and tell myself to stop being so lazy! Everything that I am struggling with now could be easily resolved if only I had gotten off of that couch or off the phone and done something productive for my future. I would tell myself to research colleges and choose one that excites me! Instead of what I actually did, which was to ask my friends and parents what to do, which then I ended up choosing one that they wanted for me, rather than one I wanted myself. I would stand up for myself and research scholarships so that I could afford a college of my choosing, and not regret a wasted year of my life. Not to mention the wasted money and personal turmoil I put myself through this year. Thanks to my high school self, I am now regrettably paying for not smacking myself earlier, literally.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I wish there were more students my age. Though I enjoy the diversity, it can be difficult to find a new friends when the only people you see everyday are 10 years older than you with full time careers. It can be challenging to relate to someone that is at a different point in their lives than you are.
