I am planning on going to Loras College in the fall of 2022. To be honest it was a fluke that I found out about Loras College. I found out about Loras when I went to a Catholic Youth conference and one of the representatives was there. She was really friendly, and while I know a lot of college representatives are friendly the ones I met before her at the conference were not. I visited 4 other campuses and when I visited Loras it was really beautiful and was my favorite. First off the city, Loras is located in Dubuque Iowa. It has a lot of places to go eat and a huge Hy-vee store. Me and my mom went to a Thai restaurant and it was delicious. The downtown is really cool to go sight see. I didn't see much since it snowed a few inches (it was March by the way) but I really liked what I saw. Since it did snow I didn't really see many students but the ones I did talk to really just enjoyed being at Loras. There's also an Einstein Bagels on the campus and some of the buildings have an inside bridge so you don't have to walk outside. The one thing that really sold me was if you're planning on majoring in history you're in luck. They have an amazing archive collection of interesting artifacts some from the middle ages. And the history professors are really nice. Since my visit the administrative staff has checked in with me and my family to make sure everything is alright. I've also talked to a few other professors and they are very helpful and nice too. One other thing if you aren't convinced besides the extracurricular activities you can do there are scholarship programs you can try to apply for. I am joining the Interfaith Program and it's where I learn about other religions and perspectives. Just check out the Loras website and they're always willing to help!

Don't be fooled by the whole religious and inclusive scheme. All this school wants is your money and will scam you many times. They lost millions of dollars due to really bad investments, and they try and drain their students. Currently, they are trying to steal my covid relief fund. Also, don't get a parking pass because they give out more passes than spots. If you do, you will most likely have to park downtown Dubuque and risk getting mugged, or park in a faculty spot at night and get a $50 parking fine. Most professors are here to show you how hard their amazing PhD was, and show off that they got a PhD. Don't go here. This school is a waste of time and space.

I am excited to attend Loras this year in the fall. I have gotten to know the students and faulty so well already and it is amazing how sweet and kind everyone is. It makes me less scared and nervous to be somewhere different than home. I’m so excited to be a Duhawk this fall. No where else I’d rather be going.

Wonderful school with great academic programs especially sports marketing. Great school for athletics with soccer being the focal point. I love the people and the friendly nature of the people and professors that are there to help you out all the time. They want you to be successful which you do not get at any big school because you are just seen as a number but at a small school you can be seen as a person and not just a number and a paycheck. That’s why Loras is a great college for anyone and has had a ton of success.

    If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself “Don’t be so afraid. The only thing holding you back is you. Believe in who you are today and everything that person can be. Strive to become the best version of yourself. Work every day to beat that person and compete with no one else. Reveal in the world of big and beautiful ideas because they will change you. Know that what you learn shapes who you are. Take control of your education. You own it completely, so make it everything you want it to be. Read. Ask critical questions. Research around the issues brought up in class. Don’t sit back in your desk and expect the teacher to make a deposit in the bank of your brain, because it’s up to you to do the investing. Be bold. Make mistakes and redefine success and failure.     The faculty, staff, students, and friends at Loras is a major component of the overall excellence of the school. It's difficult to pinpoint one "best part," because so many things collaborate to create a truly great college experience, such as academic excellence, a sense of community, and activities on campus. What makes these things great, however, is the group of people involved.

  7. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    The worst thing about Loras College is the current registration process for first years getting into spring semester classes. The process has been changed numerous times, but it is still a rough process. Students sign up for a time to register and on the actual registration day first years register according to the time they signed up for. It is set up so groups of 5 students in each MOI register at a time. However, not everyone can connect to the internet to register or the classes are full. No matter what there are road blocks in this process.

    There is not a single person who shouldn't go to Loras College- if one does not like an environment that fosters creativity, fellowship, hard work, morality or friendship, he may not want to attend Loras. Academically, one who is not serious about his education and has little personal drive might suffer due to the expectations of the students who study at Loras College.

    My school's factuality and student relationships are very unique. The faculty do whatever they can to guide the students in the right field. Since the class sizes are small every student can get one on one time in with a professor.

    The most frustrating thing about my school for most students is class registration. With Loras being a smaller school, there are not an abundance of professors and classes. The numbers are limited to sign up for classes, especially when it comes to required courses. Many students get frustrated by this when it comes to registration time and worrying about graduating on time.

TUITION & AID

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
