What should every freshman at Laramie County Community College know before they start?

Lad, you're gonna screw up. It's okay though, you'll learn a lot from it. Learn to take less to heart, swallow your pride, and live more in the moment. When it comes to college, you really aren't ready for it. It's okay. You need time to find your passion in life before you decide to commit to something. Enjoy your youth. Work crazy hours with your friends, spend too much time floating the river and fishing, find more time to spend with your grandfather (especially when it comes to pheasant hunting), don't be afraid to join the military a little earlier, and don't be afraid to be honest. The lies you tell to protect the ones you love end up hurting you more in the end. It's okay to be more selfish. You are your own person. You don't have to live in the shadow of your father. You don't have to listen to your family. If they don't understand right away, they'll understand when you eventually get it together. Finally, love her with everything you have and then some. She's not going to be around forever.

"Don't doubt what you can become, because you don't want to live your life with regrets." This is what I would tell my high school self. I was top of my class in high school, and went to a well-known school. I obtained a degree in which I do not regret, but it's not my passion. Every day I stood in my classroom staring out the window at the EMTs and health professions' building. I thought they were braver than I, and that my social anxiety would keep me from ever becoming an EMT and ER nurse. Everyday I watched the ambulances leave, and uniformed nurses go in. I realized I would always live my life with regrets if I didn't pursue this passion of mine. I would always be watching and doubtful of my abilities. I decided to start slow with some health classes, and gained so much confidence in my abilities. I am now in a nursing program, and completed my EMT. Had I not gone back to school, I would have never grown in the ways I did. I wouldn't know such accomplishment and happiness.

College takes work, but it is not an impossible task. Some days are harder than others, but all of them will be worth it. Take it one day at a time and never give up. If you're struggling in a subject, talk to your professor about it. Don't change yourself to please other people, and don't lose sight of what you believe. It's tempting to try to fit in, but don't. I'm not saying don't try to make friends; just don't change who you are for someone to like you. Being good at school doesn't mean you're a nerd with no life, and struggling in school doesn't mean you're a failure. Don't let people get to you, as some will say stupid things. Your flaws don't define you. Work hard and give it your all. Keep your study material and homework organized; it will make it easier to get things done in time. There is a lot more freedom in college if you plan your classes right. It seems overwhelming, but just work hard and do your best. Study hard, pray hard; you'll be fine!

I have so much I would love to tell my high school self. I was always worried about grades and what I was going to do with my life. I'd tell myself to keep up the great work with grades but go and have some fun every once in a while. I'd want my high school self to know that working hard is great, but hanging out with friends is where the memories are made. As for worrying about what I'd do for the rest of my life, I'd tell myself it's okay to switch majors. Changing your mind is going to happen in life. As long as I'm happy with what I am doing, that should be the only thing I worry about.

I'd tell myself the same thing my dad and my judging coaches told me, go to class regaurdless how you feel and make the teacher send you back if you are really that sick. Showing up to class and listening makes a world of difference. Be prepared to grow and and start getting organized, you are on your own now.

Oh gosh, if only this opportunity was real! If I was able to go back to high school and give myself advice it would be to take my future seriously because life goes entirely too fast. The last 8 years of my life have flown by. I have seen many people lose their lives at such a young age and I am fortunate enough to actually have been given a chance to have the future others have lost. In highschool and when I attended Seton Hall University I was all about the social life of it, I was never into my grades. Then I grew up, and now I am 24 years old and realize what needs to be done. I promised myself at the beginning of 2013 that I was going to change things for myself and now I am attending Middlesex County College and have a 3.7 gpa, the best gpa I have had in my entire life. So to me high school self, get yourself together Alyssa! The future is now!

I should have listened to my mother. School does matter. Boyfriends don’t. Her lifelong advice for me has been to be happy, honest and smart. I always had a plan of working with animals. I knew I would need a bachelor’s degree. Leaving home would be necessary in order to attend a four year school. As choices go, I made the wrong one. Instead of following the plan, I chose to stay home and attend community college. Now there is nothing wrong with community college. Changing my plan to stay near my boyfriend was not a good choice. The boyfriend lasted until school started in September. I was not happy and, if I was being honest, I had to acknowledge that I had not made a smart choice. I should have listened to my mother. She knew because she had made a similar choice years ago. If the boyfriend is the right one he will still be there after college. so now, I am listening to my mom. I am honestly happy to say I made the smart decision to enroll at Friends University in the Zoo Science program. I am going to college and following my plan.

Stop thinking high school is all about having fun and making friends. There are more important things. Focus on your studies and get a real diploma instead of going to Vancouver for more fun and getting a certificate because you'll never find a job that's worth the student loan debt. Start you're education in the healthcare industry right after graduation and don't put it off for when you're 21 and in a horrible economic status. Also, be nice to your teachers because your sister will be one of them soon and they are actually very good when you treat them the right way. Good luck!

I wish I would have been in more clubs and filled out more scholarships. I should have went to vo-tech to get some college classes taken so I wouldn't have to take zero level classes and work as hard as I do now. Should have worked more at my job to make more money for college. Wish I would have done more for my community and school. Should have taken a math and a computer class on my senior year and harder classes so I would have been prepared. Should have taken more act's and sat's. Wish I took chemisrty, so I would know more about labs.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would sit me down and have a civil conversation with me. I would tell myself to stop going down the path I am and to snap out of it. College is an exciting adventure that I think everyone should experience so listen and listen carefully. When you first attend college , it is overwhelming. There are new people, places, activities, and the whole atmosphere is completely shifted. I would tell myself to never get stressed or overwhelmed over the things I couldn't control. Assignments will always be there , so never get behind. Be open minded and throw yourself out there to meet new people. Don't get caught up in drama, nonsense, or failure because it will only bring you down , not lift you up. My best advice to myself would have been; Have fun and achieve your dreams because only you has the potential and will power to be you.
