Lake Land College is a great community college located on the edge of Mattoon Illinois. The staff are friendly, and always available to help. The class sizes are smaller, and the professors are always willing to help you out when you need it. They really care for the student population, and want everyone to succeed. If you are looking for a great community college, with a lot of extra curricular activities, smaller class sizes, and for a great price. LLC is right for you!

Trevin - 06/26/2020

I would say that the staff are always friendly and ready to help. The campus is large but not too large, so it’s easy to get around. Lakeland also has cool technology to use in courses, all top of the line. So all in all it’s a great college experience

Cheyenne - 05/10/2020

I like it, its very down to earth and friendly. Lots of knowledgeable students! I love that they offer blend ed. Especially now in this covid-19 pandemic we havew the opportuntiy to go virtual or totally online, although I prefer virtual. I can log into real time class and interact with students.

Mackinzie - 02/12/2020

I love it!! The one on one time with advisors and professors are beneficial. The class sizes are small, which allows real friendships and relationships with peers, as well as the staff. Many ways to get involved either through a club, academic organization, a study abroad, or even student activities. I am involved in 3 clubs, just got back from a study abroad about a month ago, and am on a team that has qualified for the national level in the competition we competed in. There is lots of opportunity for growth, both personal and professional.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to have an idea of what you want to do later on in life. As long as you have some idea then it makes choosing major's easier even if you were to change you mind. I would also tell myself to take as many dual credit courses as you can that way you would get college credit for some of your freshman year classes and hop straight into the classes that will be teaching you about what you will be doing in the work force. I would also tell myself not to worry as much about the transition from high school to college because there will be somebody there to help you out along the way. College is more fun than high school and you will hopefully be doing something that you like so show up for class and do your work and it will all fly by with a breeze. It is not as hard as it seems.

I believe that the worst thing about Lake Land College would have to be the fact that there is not an adequate range of classes offered, that fit my particular major. I would like to transfer to a Global Studies major, and lake Land does not have many course equivalents for my major.

My school is very close to where I grew up. The college also has a small student body, allowing for stronger student-instructor interaction.
