If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would stress just how hard it is to make it in the "real world" without a college degree. I would tell myself that by the beginning of 2010 I will have been unemployed three times in 2 and a half years for periods of 2 months or longer. I would also tell my younger self that this meant having absolutely no money and struggling daily, of the embarassment of being nearly 30 years old and not being able to provide for myself. I would speak of not have a car, living with my sister, brother in law and their newborn baby. I would tell myself that it could all be avoided with a college degree and how having a degree lessens ones chances of unemployment significantly. Knowing what i know now, I would tell myself "wake up kid, college is your future"

i would tell myself not to get stressed because stress can cause you not to do your best and to follow the teachers instructions. do your assignments and just study the practice materials in the books.

I would tell myself not to take time off, atleast not as long as I did. To take advanced classes, they might seem hard but they are going to help you out after high school. While yes graduating mid-term was great no more school but the dropping to a general diploma only hurt me. Study harder, dont stay out as late and work less hours.

The most important thing that high school seniors should know is that it's normal to be unsure of what you want to do upon graduation. These students should not be discouraged from attending college though. It is normal to not be sure what direction you want to go after graduation, after all your life has been planned out for you until now but your 18 and the decisions you make now will impact the rest of your life. It's a lot of pressure but if you make the choice to attend college now you will thank yourself later. First, you should look into different colleges and weigh out your options by looking at things like what do you want to get out of your college experience? Or how close do you want to stay to home? Look at what academic options your schools offer and go visit the campuses. Once you pick your school the first year or so will be general education and this will give you time to make your career choice. Take all the time you need and utilize your campus resources. There are always people there to help you make your career decision!

I would definietly tell myself to take college more seriously the first time around! I didn't get off to a good start my first year of college and now I am really regretting that.

Don't hesitate or second guess yourself. Jump on this chance to go to college. You'll be able to make something of yourself. College is so full of opportunity and new experiences. You will meet new people, make new friends, and find new mentors and role-models. The achievements you have will make you feel proud of yourself. The credentials will make the job opportunities you find astounding, and the life made possible before you will be better than anything you have experienced or hoped for. Going to college now will pave the road for a better life than jumping straight into the workforce would, and the experiences will stay with you forever. Also, if you were to get your higher education now, you will be set up to give your children a better life in the future. You won't be struggling to provide for yourself or your progeny.
