It is a great school to attend. I love how you can move at your own pace so that you can achieve and get to where you need to be.

Regan - 01/22/2018

Hi, my name is Regan. I am 26 years old and I have two boys ages 10 and 6. If I receive this scholarship it would help us greatly. This would give them a better opportunity for a bright future. I want to be able to show how I can work and go to school to be able to provide for them and myself without struggling for us financially. It is my goal to be the best I can be professionally and living up to my dreams for my children. I choose Ivy tech for my school for the fact I have heard great things about their school. Lots of involvement with study groups and activities to help you reach your goal in whatever degree you are wanting. So far, I have had a lot of help with the very sweet faculty at Ivy Tech. with all my questions and concerns, starting school as an undergraduate. I like how Ivy Tech. will help you along the way. My goal is to become a nurse. When I ask 14 I lived with my grandmother (my memaw) being sick with lung cancer. It was always me and her growing up and she took care of me, so I gave it my all. I dealt with the doctors, I helped with administering her medication and loving her while she was trying to get better. This is where I want to be, I have never been so happy that Ivy Tech. is giving me this opportunity to fulfilling my dreams. I want to give people a nurse that is in this career for the passion of the job. Sometimes people like the fact of how much money you are making, and they are money motivated. I am not I would do this for nothing, just to know that I have helped one person feel better or to be able to comfort them during their agony. I want that every day! Honestly once my children are older, I wouldn’t mind even traveling to different countries and helping the poverty. I feel like we aren’t in touch enough to know what true sickness looks like. No doubt would that be an experience of a lifetime. When I was 15 my memaw pass away, leaving me on my own. I was young and had a lot of dumb ideas of how I knew everything. Haha don’t we all 😉. I became a young mom at the age 16 to an amazing boy named Seth. School at that time wasn’t much of an option. I worked 3 jobs to keep us going in life. When I was a little older and he could attend school, I got my HSE. This made me who I am today. I am strong because when life gets hard I can make. Just keep swimming!

I believe the school is a fantastic start before going to a traditional four year university. Classes are affordable, the financial aid department is very skilled in helping you get FAFSA (if applicable to you), teachers are mostly helpful, class sizes are smaller than typical four year institutions, and the opportunities are boundless.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

All of a sudden, you go from having your parents telling you what to do, helping you get up, making your meals for you, paying your way for you, to doing everything on your own. It can be a difficult transition for you. I would have said to myself to not let my parents do so much for me, to let me fall on my face a little. I went from allowing my parents do everything for me, to moving into my own appartment, make my own meals, have my own budget to adhere to. I feel I did pretty well with this transition. I believe my success for the most part is my strong desire to stay fit, and healthy. I will not allow drugs or alcohol into my life, or that of the people I choose to be around. I have always felt this way, and will continue to live my life this way. There are many, many distractions that await you from attaining your dreams, and you must stay focused and true to your goals. Make sure you are finding friends that are like you, never giving into peer pressure to be liked.

I don't believe there is a negative aspect of my college other than the fact there are limited amounts of courses available to students at this point in time because of an increase in admissions. They are pursuing growth opportunities that will eventually lead to better options for students.

  5. Describe the students at your school.

Many of the students at Ivy Tech are a bit older, and have jobs. I am involved in the Campus Connects program, through Ball State. I am glad to have the experience of Ivy Tech. It is teaching me that I have an amazing opportunity of getting an education without the pressure of having a full time job too. My goal is to find ways to help out with the cost so my parents are not feeling the burden of the whole load. It is difficult for me to have a job, as I am doing many plays, and musicals.

  8. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I attended a large university just out of high school and was overwhelmed by the experience as a whole. The classes were large and I felt that there was no way I would ever be able to talk to my professors. Also, I quickly noticed that they didn't know who I was, so why go to class. At Ivy Tech the classes are smaller and I don't feel nervous about talking to my professors. I also go to class because I have that connection.

  9. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is the people that put it down. My school is put down by my fellow peers that go to larger universities. I try to explain to them that if their school were better than mine, why are my credits I earn at Ivy Tech directly transferrable into theirs? I find this to be the best thing about my school because I personally know Ivy Tech to be a great school that I am proud of. I made a alot of academic mistakes in high school, and Ivy Tech was one of few that cooperated.
