What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
While the transition to college is, undoubtedly, an exciting and important part of one's life, it is more than simply moving from one school to another. In addition to the spectacular education you're about to receive, you will be expected to start thinking and behaving like an adult. While no one would expect such a change to happen overnight, it's important to realize that the lifestyle you are transitioning into is drastically different than the one you have been living for the past 18 years. Everything, from your health to the grades you earn, are your responsibility. Most importantly, the cost college will not be left to your parents or to the government to pay, but to you alone.
Starting now, you need make lowering the cost of college a priority for yourself. Scholarships are everywhere, just waiting to be taken hold of and used to further one's educational dreams. College and all of its associated responsiblities will be stressful enough without having to amass mountains of debt. Do yourself a favor, and work hard to earn scholarships now so that you don't have to pay for college later. You'll be glad you did.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
I honestly wish i would have tried to get straight into a university instead of choosing to go to community college. I was unsure of my future and believed that by going to a community college it would have time to figure it out. I do believe Fullerton College is a great school, but i do wish I would have applied to a Cal State or UC.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
This one's hard. I've had a good, rewarding experience at Fullerton College. Maybe the effects of the budget cuts? For example, the library's hours have been reduced, so sometimes that's inconvenient, I guess. But those cuts affected all schools, so really I have no complaints.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
I believe that someone who is not self-motivated and a self-starter would not be a good match for this school. While being a community college, many people seem to have the misconception that it is not as serious as perhaps a four-year school might be. However, I find the courses very stimulating and the teachers amazing. However, I can see where some students slip through the crack and stay at a two-year school for many years and do not seem to move closer to either transfer or graduation.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about Fullerton College is that almost every semester, most courses are taught at an inconvenient time due to shortage of professors teaching specific courses. I am unable to take majority of the courses for my degree for example, because a class is overlapping another class at the same time and cannot do anything about it because only one professor teaches the course every semester. The only thing students can do is just plan well and work hard and hope that next semester, they can take the class they require.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
A stereotype that I hear often, not just about students at Fullerton College, but at all Community colleges, is that they are probably just going to drop out. I know that this is a false stereotype at Fullerton College because I and many other students have worked hard to avoid this. The saying goes 'Once a Hornet, always a Hornet' and we know that this is a bit of a joke, because most of us have taken longer than expected to transfer/graduate, but because we are dedicated to our education and involved in our community we have overcome that stereotype and will only continue to do so. If I get my opportunity to teach here, in the future, I will work hard to do whatever I can to see that this spirit continues within my students.
