What is Florida State University known for?

The main aspect of this school I would change would be to cut funding (especially salaries) earmarked for the university's bloated athletics program budget and devote a hefty portion of it to funding assistantships and scholarships.

We have nice weather and a wide selection of courses. I would want our library to be more up to date. The size of the school seems adequate. People assume I love to party and do not take academics seriously when I tell them I go to FSU. I spend most of my time on campus in my classes, haning out on campus could be exciting if there happens to be something occuring. We have a circus thats pretty unusual.

I think it is a little large, some of my classes are humongous and you feel really disconnected from the professor. However, I have never had a professor I didn't like or wasn't willing to talk to me one on one after class. Tallahassee is definetely a college town; underage drinking is rampant, there's at least 500 amateur bands, and everyone drinks a whole lot. There's definitely a shitload of pride at FSU, which is awesome (if you sit in the student section at a football game you will not sit down the entire time). My favorite thing to do around campus is, during my hour break on M-W just go sit in the sunshine on Landis Green. There's tons of kids throwing frisbees, girls laying out, people just studying and listening to music... its awesome. On the whole there's just a few things I think I'd change, probably how standoffish frat/sorority kids are towards kids like me, and how much money they suck out of your bank account... and they wonder why i'm starving.

The best thing about FSU is the sense of community; I love walking around campus in a sea of garnet and gold. The campus is, however, extremely spread apart; I'd like to see a faster, more efficient transportation system on campus. Our campus is large, but it is very spread apart, and is, by no means, crowded. This makes the campus visually appealing and emits a positive atmosphere. When I tell people I go to FSU, they either admit to being gator fans or are alum themselves. It is a great sense of community; it makes for instant friendship in strangers! I find myself spending most time on campus on our central green, Landis Green. It is a quaint area central to campus, and the hot dog stand there is delish! I love spending lunch time there between classes! We do have several colleges in Tallahassee, FAMU, FSU, and TCC. There are lots of twenty-somethings in a very small area! I've found our administration to be very efficient in working towards the good of the student body, addressing concerns very quickly and professionally. Our biggest complaint is the price of tuition and the cutting of library funding. I am unaware of any large controversies recently. Seminoles are full of pride and that is a central ideal that an FSU student quickly picks up on within the first few days of being on campus. My most memorable experience on campus was my first semester exam week, when I entered the jam packed Strozier library which had weeks before, been barren. It was quite the studying experience!

I think dorm life is the best way to start out at FSU. You meet your friends that way. People don't want to talk in class initially because we are paying for it! I think Florida State is the perfect size. You have the university feel with a close knit community too. You almost feel like you are in a small town here, it is definitely a college town. People that are from the area love FSU. IT feels like the completely support the school and its students.I think there is a lot of school pride except for this football season. Recently the biggest controversy on campus was the CBR (Center for Bioethical Reform)'s presentation on abortion. It was horribly graphic and offensive to EVERYONE, no matter what you stand for. Students were really upset and protested.

The best thing about FSU is the social environment. I suppose you'd find this same kind of environment in other colleges, but in some you wouldn't. Also it's very convenient when you have a bright futures scholarship. It's a fairly small campus, but I'd prefer it to a larger one that you'd have to drive to get anywhere. None of my folks have gone to any college in Florida, so when I tell them I go to FSU, they're pretty neutral on it. I spend most of my time in my dorm, at the Student Life Cinema, or around the Fine Arts Building or Annex. FSU administration, like any other academic administration, works to cut down art programs so they can build up "more important" programs like business, science, law, and sports programs. Tallahassee is not college friendly. It's fairly spaced out, and public transportation is a wreck. Basically college life is contained.

Leslie

The best thing at FSU is the Seminole pride that everyone has especially at sporting events you can tell everyone is proud to be a Florida State Seminole. I think Florida State is just right, plenty of people to meet and become friends with but if you get involved it doesn't make the campus seem so overwhelming. I spend most of my time on campus in my dorm, at the Leach center, at my sorority house or laying out on beautiful Landis gren. Tallahassee is definately a college town with TCC, FSU and FAMU all in one city. It's bars are a definite college scene and it has plenty of college based activities around town.

Jesse

girls, more girls, FSU is the perfect size if you like people... def a college town

Dale

The best thing about FSU is the scenery. I'd change the size of Tallahassee, however. Sometimes there aren't enough things to do here. The school's size is just right, but some people may find it too large for their taste. People react mostly in a positive manner when I tell them I go to FSU because it is a respected university in Florida. (Except if you're a Gator!) I spend most of my time in my dorm or in the library. Tallahassee is a huge college town... I was born and raised here, so Seminole athletics are a way of life. FSU has a great deal of school spirit, it's amazing.

Lauren

The best thing about FSU is the school spirit! FSU's Seminole pride brings people from all walks of life together for one purpose: to support the FSU Seminoles on their way to victory! One thing that I would change about FSU is faculty-student relationships. I would love for students to be able to feel a strong bond with their faculty so they will not be afraid to ask quesetions about subject matter or even future career goals. Florida State is a very large school, but I believe that the size is just right. When I tell people that I attend Florida State, they at first seem shocked (because I went to a private Christian school my entire life) but are also proud that I took on the challenged of a 40,000 student public university. I'm loving every minute! I think that the administration at FSU is amazing! The people work hard and care about the students and attempt to make decisions that will affect student's lives in a positive manner. I spend most of my time on campus in the Union. I love going to the student union to see everybody that you would not normally see or to just hang out in the eatery or even the Bridge Lounge. Tallahassee is definitely a college down in the FSU/FAMU/TCC region. The area of Tallahassee, which is where students spend the majority of their time, is truly a college town from the atmosphere to the people to the places (that stay packed past 2 in the morning!). The biggest recent controversy on campus was the 2008 SGA election. Insight, the longest running and most winning political party on campus, lost the seat of the President to a new campus organization entitled Torch (congratulations new President-elect Laymon Hicks!). School pride IS FSU! When one attends Florida State, they automatically gain school pride that they never knew they had before! The unusual thing about FSU is the diversity yet unity on campus. Everyone is different and embraces their diversity, yet they are accepting of most everyone and will learn to appreciate those people's differences as well. One experience I will always remember is the first football that I attended with Lady Spirithunters! It was an amazing experience full of Seminole pride like nothing else I've ever experienced before. Frequent student complaints would be mandatory meal plans. Why do we have to have a meal-plan if we live in a certain dorm/
