Elon University Top Questions

Describe the students at Elon University.

Sarah

Class sizes at Elon are small, usually no more than 30 students and everyone wants to be there! I think that makes a difference, no large lecture halls where people skip half the time. It was the perfect size for me, and it was nice that my fellow classmates took their education seriously.

My classmates have an amazing passion not only for our school but our class as well and they carry this passion int everything they do, making them energetic, enthusiastic, and outgoing.

A large majority of students are from the north, and I think many of the guys here are concerned with sports, which in my mind has great entertainment value but is really a waste of our nation's time. Many kids are just rolling in money, some I know shop online, get an item and well it's too small and just give it away....just a lot of kids here who don't see reality for what it is. I pay for many of my expenses while others just freeload and do whatever they want all the time.

Elon is a great place for leaders and for energetic hands-on learners who are determined to make a difference. There are not many introverts or students that are here just to study and get a degree. Elon is all about the experience, about becoming a global learner with a broad realm of knowledge and a set of skills ready to be applied to whatever field you’re entering as well as to every other aspect of your life. Elon is great for students that care about more than grades but are still willing to work, want to succeed, make changes for the better and overall, be happy.

There is definitely some truth to the preppy stereotype. You will see an abundance of blondes, Sperrys, Longchamp bags, etc. But this is NOT everyone. Getting involved in things you're interested in is a good way to meet people like you, and there are plenty of groups that fly under the radar. Get involved in club sports, student media, Greek life, etc. The people I know in Greek life, the people I work with in student media, and the people I worked on the student literary magazine with are all so different from one another. You will find your preppy types, the hard partiers, the hipster types, the very studious kids, and people who don't fit into any of those categories. It's true that a lot of kids have money, but this is rarely important in any social situation. Most people did grow up in affluent suburbs of Raleigh or Boston. Upon getting to know people it's not uncommon to discover that they have 3 houses or drive a BMW, but these kids rarely advertise it.

Close minded and snobby. There is definetly one type of student at Elon. Other schools have a much more diverse student body and as much as Elon would like to make it out like they do, they do not at all. A lot of the students are from the northeast but they are snobby rich kids. Definetly a preppy vibe, especially all the guys. If you want to meet cool intellectual people don't come here

Most Elon students are from the middle/upper class, but so are students in every other private school. Some Elon students like dressing up classes while others were sweat pants everyday. No one really judges what others wear to class, so what you wear is really a personal preference. A lot of students are very preppy though. Many girls wear Lilly Pulitzer and have Long Champ and Vera Bradly purses. Sorority girls wear their letters almost 7 days a week. Students at Elon are very involved, with well, everything. Each Elon student will be active in at least one group, and all Elon students are involved with community service.
