What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Tara

For non-drinkers, there are usually dances on Thursday or Saturday night where alcohol is banned (but be warned, most people don't show up until they're already drunk!) There are also great theater performances and speakers.

I would say the majority of students are athletes, either for wellness reasons or competition. The students are very active and full of energy. The social scene revolves around alcohol, and those that do not do it are sometimes left to find other things to do besides party. Floralia is on Saturday, which should be really fun.

The most popular sports teams are soccer and basketball, but most people can play sports if they want to. I run xc and everyone gets to run no matter their level. There are no frats/sororities, and not a lot of apartment living. The parties are in people's rooms, or in common rooms where we are allowed to have kegs. The student government and social board organize events for the weekend, but usually they are all dances at our "student center" that isn't really a great student center to begin with. The dating scene doesn't even exist really, most people just hook up on weekends when they are drunk (which can lead to dangerous situations) and then don't talk ever again even though they see each other everywhere on campus because the school is so small. If you are awake on a Tuesday at 2am you are probably doing a paper or studying at Conn. There is not a lot going on on the weekends, except for Saturday night. Off campus you can go out to eat, go to bars, or a music show but you need a car.

Booze on Thursday and Saturday. A lot of booze but it's a cushy setting given we are all gated up. Not very hardcore.

There are so many activities on campus that it's been rare when i've been bored. However, if there was to be a lack of school run activities, i feel that the social life would be dredful. When left alone to make their own fun, either people don't know what to do besides get wasted, or they simply get wasted and have their fun that way. This makes me happy that there are no fraternities on campus, because i think the school is too small to have one, and that everyone acts as though they live in a frat already. It's very hard to get off campus to do other things unless you have a friend that has a car, which usually doesn't happen until junior year or so. Luckily, Mohegan Sun is close by so there are many things to do there, but in the immediate area there doens't appear to be much.

The only downfall about the social life at Conn is that it is a lot of the same stuff every weekend. You will always find parties, dances and concerts. We also live in a fairly small campus, so there isnt a whole lot of scenic diversity. However, students get creative here. People make up themes to their own parties. THe weekend is a great time to socialize, but, by no means, is it the only time. SOcializing at Conn is as hot as the academics. People love to talk and engage with one another.

very boring social life. no off-campus housing

Christopher

We have kegs that are allowed by the school. we have a dance about every weekend and their are always bands playing on friday night. There is something for everyone and downtown New London has a great up and coming scene for those who like an adventure!

Lexi

social life on weekends is generally surrounded around drinking, but there are always dances are sporting events to go see on the weekends, and there are many places off campus either close or far away that offer other outlets like concerts, coffee shops and beaches

Olivia

many groups and organizations available, no greek life, weekend life is mostly on campus or in a few new london bars, kegs in common rooms and drinking in dorms
