I would tell a student that is considering a school to truly check it out first to make sure you like it. Visit on an off day and see what goes on, assess it in your own way and then think if you would enjoy that environment. Make sure to look at the dorms if you plan to live on campus, and don't room with your best friend from high school...it usually doen't work out well!

Research Reasearch Research... Just because you have a number one school that you would like to attend, still research other colleges. You may find some that you are interested in. And some will offer you things toward your financial aid that may help you go to school for praticaley free

Make sure that it is the right fit for you. Before you make the decision make sure that it has the right tools to get you where you want to go in life. Ask about financial aid, the program that you may be interested in, the atmosphere around campus as well as advisement.

There are so many words of advice that I could give in regards to college, but the most important thing I could recommend is remembering not to let yourself become overwhelmed. Studying is extremely important, as well as keeping up with your assigned reading and homework assignments; but it is just as important to make friends and enjoy your four-year experience to the best of your ability. Any time you feel like the stress of classes is becoming too much, make sure you have a friend, partner or roommate to turn to so you can let it out...someone you can relate with, complain to, and even listen to when they have their own problems. Having fun outside of your classes and shoolwork is so important because it helps you balance your life. All work and no play makes life very difficult, and the same for the opposite... Balance is key.
