In order to succefully pick out what college fits best with a student is discovering who you, as the student really are. Included with self discovery, you should know what you want. Set a goal. Will that goal be achieved at this school or will it be at another. Set priorities; is it more important to be in a friendly school with low academic standards or is it more important to be more independent and have better academic standards. One of the best ways to get the most out your college experience is to be involved. The more involved you are the more friends and relations you make. With the more friends and relations you make the easier it is to seek for help; with easier access to help the easier it is to fulfill to your greatest potential academically and socially. the only person who knows what he or she wants is him/her; everyone else are advisors.

The advice I would give to students and parents is to take a lot of time and do a lot of research. Explore as much as you can and use as many tools that are available to you in your college search. Finding the right college is such an important decision its not something you want to procrastinate over. Also its important for students to base their decisions on what they need and want, not that of their peers. By taking the time to find the right school, your college experiance could be the best time of your life.

Make sure to find a place where you are comfortable and don't make a decision until you have seen the campus, the type of people there and realy discover if you can be as comfortable there as you can. If you are not comfortable, you will be in for a rough four years. Comfort is the key.

The college decision is one of the most important decisions in one's life. Where one attends college may affect the quality of the job they will seek after their undergraduate education. It also affects the options one will have if they decide to attend a graduate school. Researching universities is one of the most important ways to finding which college is right for you. However, reading and looking at pictures of a university does not compare to going on an actual tour. When I toured through specific universities, I was picturing myself walking around and attending that university. Once you do that, you will either not get the feel for the university and decide it's not for you or you may fall in love with everything about it. When at college, you need to be able to balance school and your social life. It's all about balance. It gets easier as the year progresses, but it is not impossible to obtain a high GPA while maintaining friends. Not only that, but becoming involved on campus is important as well. Whether it's intramurals or clubs, it's a way to meet people and experience something new.

It is important to find a school where the staff is helpful and there are alot of options. It is not rare to figure out what you thought you really wanted to do wasn't really for you so if you can find good advisement then you can find your self well on your way to living your life in its best desires. Its also important to sleep and eat well and stay socially active to keep yourself from going insane. Study hard but not too hard.
