What's your overall opinion of California State University Maritime Academy?

5 Students rated California State University Maritime Academy

Cal Maritime is a different experience then let’s say, Santa Cruz. It is an Academy, which means there is a lot more expectation and more discipline. You won’t be going to classes in pajamas, but the uniform isn’t too bad. It’s a great place to be from, as they say. The boat guys are great, and as a cadet, you will gain experiences unlike any others. Deckies or Engineering is the highlight, as it is male dominated. You will make friends and have a good time, just be sure you are willing to deal with rules but as always, make the most of it and be flexible!

My overall opinion about California State University Maritime Academy is just that it is an amazing school with amazing education opportunities. The overall teacher to student ratio is amazing if you like small schools! Cal Maritime is an amazing school with unique learning opportunities, with overseas experience.

From what I've seen so far, I've enjoyed being in Cal Maritime. The campus is beautiful, the students are professional and helpful, the faculty are easily accessible, and the on-campus dorms, while small, are easy to live in. The only issue I have is how far other stores can be from the campus, but other than that I've got no complaints.

California Maritime Academy is one of the most unique schools you will find. With a small campus and small class sizes the teachers know their students. This is a unique world that most people do not know about and is a vital, important, and growing industry. With hard work one can succeed with a life in this industry whether at sea or ashore.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

"Hey Kabrianna. I know that you are stressed, but without stress, we wouldn't accomplish half of what we do! Don't let that stress worry you, because you CAN and WILL do it, I promise. Continue keeping your grades high, but do not forget to put family first. It is so easy to say ' I will just stay out tonight and come home later' and before you know it, it is time to grow up, and your beloved sister, Kyla, feels distant. Most of all, realize that you will be OKAY! In Fall of 2013, you're going to rock your red graduation gown and smile to your unsupportive family as you're eighteen with your associates and a 3.9 GPA! There will be a time you are bitter for supporting the family and be the provider. I know it's hard to believe, but they will be okay without you and things will look up. Mom will straighten up and help you care for Kyla. You just need to stay strong, and keep on keeping on. Its going to be hard, but breathe, because you will be okay, I promise. Take care, and boys are bad, mkay?"

If my classmates must be described in only one sentence, I would use that sentence to explain such that there is no way in hell, I mean positively no way- that one can describe such a demographic in one arrogant fell swoop of his breath.

The small size of the campus allows you to take comfort in its space. I used to feel completely safe until the lower classes started having problems with certain individuals violating others. It's easy to get around and if something happens, it's not hard to describe where you are.
