Cal Polyl is best known for providing hands-on learning. Because I majored in Animal Science, my laboratoriess were outside, directly working with animals. I learned phlebotomy, necropsy, castration, artifical insemination and many other practical skills. I am a person who learns best by touching and seeing first hand what is described in lecture. In one class, we learned about the anatomy of a cow's reproductive organs. The next day in lab, we had the opportunity to actually touch and see what it looks like in an actual cow. This school created an ideal learning enviroment for myself.

Strong engineering and architecture programs, very rural, Farmer's Market downtown, good hiking, horrible campus food, impacted classes, and tiny dorm rooms.

Cal Poly is best known for it's "learn by doing" philosophy. This is the reason why I chose the school. There are three main colleges that are well respected, Architecture and Environmental Design, Engineering, and Agriculture. I am an architecture major, and so far I have found the "learn by doing" approach to be extremely beneficial and effective. The school is highly regarded by potential employers, because it has a reputation for training its students to succeed directly out of college, by giving them hands on experience similar to a real job.

Cal Poly is best known for its hands-on learning experience and competetive academic atmosphere. Professors make themselves very available to students during office hours. In some cases their offices are right next to the labs where students work. Another great thing about Cal Poly is that you start taking classes for your major as soon as you enroll; you do not have to take a full 1-2 years of GE's first. For the price of a Cal State school , you get the equivalent of a private school education!

My school is best know for it's architecture and engineering programs. They are very hard to get into and the students in the programs are known for high grades and excellence. We also have a great agriculture program and many acres of land in which the students can learn about organic farming and other farming techniques.

Cal Poly is best known for it's tight-knit, community feel and the variety of outdoor activities to experience in the surrounding area. It is located 12 miles from the beach and it is known for being sunny and 70 degrees year-round. Students here can wear t-shirts year-round, even in January. Cal Poly is also known for being very tough to get into and making it difficult on students to change their major once they have been accepted into a certain program. This causes many students stress about their future when they are unable to switch.
