What is the stereotype of students at Brown University?

Brown students are seen as very liberal and very stuck-up. The other schools in Providence see Brown kids as stuck-up, wealthy students.

Whenever I say I am from Brown, people always say "Youre one of those smart kids." I guess stereotypes are what other people say and that is about all that I have heard. Oh yeah, they also say, "where is Brown?" no one knows.

With our open curriculum, our emphasis of the term “concentration” over “major”, and our absence of a “Brown Republicans” organization until just last year, it’s no wonder that Brown gets the stereotype as the crazy liberal, anti-establishment, Ivy filled with tree-hugging hippies who refuse to adhere to any form of structure. To many, the typical Brown student smokes weed, rocks out to the Flaming Lips, and majors in Egyptology, Modern Culture and Media or any other of our somewhat obscure departments.
