This award is for U.S. female sophomore and junior students of African descent who are enrolled full time in an English, literature, journalism or related area of study at a Historically Black college or university. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or better and submit a 800-word essay on the topic the power of the written word.

Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Awards Program
This popular fiction writing contest is open to any writer who submits a story of 4,000 words or less in one or more of the following categories: crime; horror; romance; science fiction/fantasy; thriller; young adult. Entries are accepted from U.S. and non-U.S. residents with no age restriction; entries are not accepted from Syria, Iran, or North Korea due to SEC restrictions.
Arts Merit Scholarship
This award is available for students of the performing arts who are attending Bucknell University.
UNF Gray Scholarship
This award is available to U.S students who are planning to attend the University of North Florida as freshmen and major in a field within the College of Arts & Sciences. Students must have a UNF recalculated grade point average of 3.6 or higher and a SAT score of 1360 or higher or an ACT score of 28 or higher.
Arts for Life! Scholarship
Each year Arts for Life! awards $1,000 scholarships to 25 graduating high school seniors in Florida. This award is available for U.S. and international high school seniors in Florida. Students must demonstrate artistic merit and academic excellence in creative writing, dance, music, theatre or visual arts.
Writer’s Digest Poetry Awards Program
This poetry contest is open to any student who submits an original, unpublished poem of no longer than 32 lines and the submission fee.
Patriot’s Pen Essay Writing Contest
U.S. students enrolled in grades six through eight are eligible for this award. Students must submit a typewritten essay between 300 and 400 words in length on the current year’s topic.
