What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Past Leila you are never alone. When you go into college your first year as an off campus student it will be hard because all your friends are having different experiences since they are thrown into the middle of the action. But you can be there too! Don’t hold back and get involved on campus. Enjoy every moment and learn from it because it all goes by fast. There will be times when you are lonely or feeling defeated but look up and you will find yourself surrounded by new friends and loving family. If by chance that support isn’t there take consolation in knowing that you have future me looking out for you. Remember to give and do your best in everything, no matter what. My school has a strong Christian background and foundation that sets it apart from other schools. It allows all of its students to practice its religion no matter what the differences. This strong Christian background is built into curriculum and education we are given here at Regent. We are immersed in Christian teachings and feel safe to practice our beliefs.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The campus is gorgeous and the professors are amazing. They care about their students and they're easy to get in contact with. They give you their offices in the syllabus and you can just drop by and see them if you want. In the past, I've e-mailed one of my professors a short story I wrote on my own and he went over it. I plan to do the same thing before I publish my poetry anthology.

What are the academics like at your school?
All my profs know me. I've had opportunities to build relationships with most of them... their doors are always open. Classes are good, but more learning honestly happens outside the classroom than in. I have a lot of friends in my school that I talk with... a very stimulating environment, if you choose to plug in. Online student life is a bit different, obviously... they could do a lot more to improve their online learning environment, but that's coming from a Digital Media student. I've taken over a year online and I learned tons... some of the professors need to become more adept with virtual communication, though.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Regent University is for anyone who desires a quality education. One doesn't have to be a Christian in order to attend Regent but for those who are Christians the spiritual environment will be a valuable experience. However, the high quality education that is earned at Regent stands on its own apart from its Christian foundation. Regent's Law school has earned rave reviews as well as its department of education and its theology department. In addition, its online degree program has been ranked in the top of its class. If these areas interest you than Regent's for you.

What's unique about your campus?
Community - There's a strong sense of community and no one is left out unless they hole themselves up by their own personal choice. The community is very positive, without drinking or drugs and extremely spritiually-based.

I wish I had taken the time to learn more about the college experience, because transitioning from high school directly to college is a big step.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing are the textbooks, which are usually the newest edition and therefore very expensive, although I think that this can be said of any college or university.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Social life is very individualistic, because there are no dorms. People pretty make their own social lives, outside of the campus for the most part. There's not a lot of partying, definitely not on campus. Personally, I like that. Campus is a quiet place to talk, study, and think. And it's a gorgeous place... lots of lawn and trees... brick sidewalks, beautiful Georgian architecture.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
A person who is lazy or not motivated should not attend this school. There is a lot of hard work involved to get good grades and you need to be motivated and willing to put in the time and effort.

What is the stereotype of students at your school?
That really depends on the different schools. Each school is kind of known for something in particular. The Communication and Arts school is probably known for being "easier" because we get to watch movies and build websites and make movies for credit. In other words, it's easy. That's the stereotype. We're also known for all the toys we get to play with... we have our own huge building (shared with IT, technically), huge areas to rehearse, a journalism lab with tv's... lots of stuff. Other schools just have classrooms.
The school at large is sometimes too closely associated with Pat Robertson and CBN. Really, there are many views on the campus that are in no way like his... there is a lot of diversity. It only is sometimes embarrassing when Robertson makes the news, like the Chavez comment a couple years ago.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
Regent wasn’t even on my radar when I was looking for schools but God had different plans. I received a leadership application in the mail and applied just for kicks. When I was accepted I was certainly excited because it was my first acceptance letter. I took a tour of Regent and fell in love with the campus. There was such a peace around me that I didn’t want to leave. After that my decision was made.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
There isn't a general stereotype for all students at Regent University. Stereotypes depend on what school they are in. For example in the student body, law and government students are viewed by the rest as very hard working or even uppity by some. Whereas on the other extreme Cinema and Television (CTV) students are viewed as the slackers of the bunch since homework for a CTV student might include watching a movie and taking notes. These however, are merely stereotypes and not always true.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
For the Com/Arts school, yes and no. There are some majors that aren't reading, writing focused (like cinema and theatre), but some are heavily into philosophy... so there's an interesting mix of academic styles. I would say it's not easy, and that it's a really great school. The stereotype of having lots of stuff is definitely true... tons of money has been poured into the COM/Arts school. It's also pretty expensive ($850/credit hour at the graduate level).
