What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to take advantage of all the pre-college opportunities that are available to me, like dual enrollment credits. By having those resources and credits out of the way I would have been able to pursue more into my career sooner.
I would also tell myself to manage my time better. The transition to college life was a hard switch and to have good time management skills prior to the transition would have made everything that much easier.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
When asked the worst thing about a college I love, only one thing comes to mind, and that?s having a good professor. In high school I had an amazing Biology teacher and guess what, I love Biology. When you?re around somebody that loves a subject--you want to learn. At North Montgomery College (now Loan Star), I have had some amazing professors and I have had some not so amazing. I long for a system where professors share their teaching style and methods and students post accurate feedback about professors or blog with upcoming students.

What's unique about your campus?
What I enjoy the most about my community college is the student activities. I will major in Interpreter Training Technology and provide the students with different ways to prepare us for the real world. They have the Deaf culture club, social events to practice American Sign Language, and an Interpreter Job fair. My community college offers college and community events. In addition to a leadership summit. My community college does not only provide academic rewards, but also to provide me to be more of a well rounding person.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Once you are accepted and have your first semester behind you they tend to leave you to fend for yourself and don't seem as willing to provide help. At least not the go-out-of-thier-way maner that you had when you first attend. Also the inconsistence of information given in the Advising office & financial aid is a big problem, I often found myself having to fact check what was being told to me or just left confused, so come with questions & information in hand or you can easily get led astray.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Having attended this college for two years, I am pleasantly surprised with both the affordability and the dedication of the staff for providing an experience that I will never forget. The campus is pleasantly landscaped and has a variety of student amenities that make attending here a stellar experience. Although the advising staff means well, they do still have problems with what they give for "advice". Bear that in mind when you come on campus and are not sure of how to proceed in your course list. Check with instructors that know the program degree that you are trying to acquire, rather than just the advisers.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
There are a mixture of many different groups at the campus. You may see baggy clothes, loud groups, quiet study groups, some in gym clothes, others in country jeans, and even on occasion you will see students in their PJ's... Usually around finals. There is a sence of relaxation and enjoyment in one area and a sence of serious book study going on in another area. The campus has such a large amount of room that people are able to find places to be themselves, areas to knock out large amounts of study material and then come together as a whole with a great sence of being one during the activities put on by the campus clubs.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Before attending my college, i wish i had known exactly what major i was going to choose for my future. I feel that if i had known my major i could have gone to a counsler to get more classes that went towrds my major now. I also wish i had looked more into the carrer center so that i cvould have had help exploring options of careers out there instead of only researching carrers on my own.

What are your classes like?
They're all core credit classes, so you can get them out of the way before tranferring. Even though there's tens of thousands of students, class sizes are pretty small. It almost feels like 13th grade, but in a good way. Most professors are always available to answer your questions after class, during their office hours, or over e-mail.
You'll meet a lot of non-traditional students in your classes. I feels like most people here are at least 22, with some sprinklings of people in their 30s and 40s. They have a lot of life experience, which makes in-class discussions pretty interesting. Overall, I'm satisfied with my classes. Just make sure to go on RateMyProfessor so you don't get stuck with a bad professor.
