What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I was in high school, and knowing what I know now, I would tell myself to always work hard to get what I wanted. I would study harder than what was asked of myself and to persevere. I don't think we realize in high school how important the studying was, until we are in college and then realize why the teachers asked so much of us. I would tell myself that entering college and moving away from home would be a little stressful at first, but to get involved with activities, meet new friends and have fun.

I think a person who is used to the city fast-paced life would not enjoy Manchester College, but that's not to say we haven't had many students from New York City and Chicago who have came, graduated, and become sucessful because of Manchester College.

The most frustrating thing is that it is small and country. The athletic facilities are below average.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
Manchester is great if you want to be an Accountant, Elementary teacher, Physical Trainer, or Chemist. However, most of the other programs leave a lot to be desired. The study abroad program is very popular for students, although in many instances it is cost prohibitive. Manchester is very generous with scholarships, but increases their tuition each year substantially so you end up paying quite a bit by your senior year. Further, Manchester typically attracts a very limited scope of students, most of them from small towns in Indiana and not necessarily the "top of the class."

I don't think that I have any negative comments about my school. verything is graeat and it provides me with a lot of help and opportuities that I need to excel and be prepared for life after college.

What are the academics like at your school?
Most of the professors went to Manchester and grew up in the immediate area surrounding the school. Most of the students are not competitive and prefer to just let things happen. The Political Science Department only has two full time professors, both of whom are very good; but offer a limited scope of knowledge outside of what they've taught the last 20-25 years. The curriculum in general is not very difficult, although some programs are harder than others.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Most students prefer to stay in small groups when hanging out. You'll find there's a small, select group of students who control most of the organizations. The Student-Education-Association (future teachers) is a great group, and really works hard in the community. Most of the dorms are very free and fun, although Helman and Oakwood Halls are usually much more quiet and "closed up." There are no frats or sororities on campus, and I live off campus and like it much better.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
When I tell people I go to Manchester they usually think "wow, that's a great school" because they hear about how much it costs to go there. Or they think I went to school in England. Most of the time I'm on campus I'm in class because I prefer not to be on campus if I don't have to be. The administration really don't care what the students think and are more concerned with starting satellite campuses than making improvements to the main campus. Most recently the Student Government Association decided to ban smoking on campus which created a small uproar, but for the most part students have very little pride in the school (except the ones who are paid to - aka 'student ambassadors') and therefore don't really care about the decisions of the SGA.

What is the stereotype of students at your school?
Some stereotypes are that all Manchester students are from the top of their high school classes, they're all extremely involved in campus activities, they're all very liberal, and that the town of North Manchester is very inclusive of the college.
